Aim

We would like to build an indoor climbing wall which can be enjoyed by the whole community.

40 years ago the West Wight community built its own swimming pool. d9df5473b4928470aaa6c2924c01a229.jpg

We campaigned. We gained support. We raised money. We dug a hole. We made something extraordinary happen. We transformed a space into a place, a place that's still at the very heart of the community.

Some of the people who helped in the beginning are still involved with our work today. Their children, grandchildren, friends, family and the wider community have all benefited from their legacy.

Today, the West Wight Sports & Community Centre is no longer just a swimming pool but a real community hub, providing a range of facilities focusing on health, fitness personal growth and development.

Our hope is that the WWSCC will continue to have a positive imact on the lives of everyone who comes into contact with us, both directly and indirectly. And we are asking the community to get behind us again, as we launch the exciting next chapter in our story.

We are always looking for new and interesting activities which we can offer, and we believe our sports hall is the perfect place to build a climbing wall!

Climbing for all

Climbing is a fun activity which can be enjoyed by all ages and all levels of abilities.  Some of its many benefits include:

  • Builds muscle and endurance
  • Reduces stress
  • Promotes problem solving skills
  • Builds confidence and self esteem

But for anyone wanting to take up the sport, or for experienced climbers to train, there are very limited opportunites on the Island. Our climbing wall would be open to all. We would aim to offer open sessions, and private hire.

But to make it happen we need your help!

It is going to cost £40,000 to build the wall, buy all the necessary equipment and train our staff to run sessions.

So far we have raised £13,000 towards this total through the 3 Peaks Challenge which saw a group of staff, centre users, families and friends attempt to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours.

That leaves £27,000 for us to raise, and where we need the community to get behind the project. We hope to raise £20,000 through Crowdfunder.  Give as little or as much as you can, there are fantastic rewards on offer on the right hand side column. Take your pick and be part of making this amazing community project become a reality!

Everyone who supports the project will receive the following:

  • Have their name on our 'Wall of Supporters' in our cafe
  • Receive an invitation to the grand opening of the climbing wall
  • 2 swimming vouchers

Plus a range of other rewards depending on the level of your pledge, including:

  • Vouchers for climbing sessions
  • Gold memberships to the Sports Centre
  • Private climbing session for up to 12 people
  • Swim and climbing vouchers to give to your friends and family

Thank you for supporting the West Wight Climbing Wall project.

Don't forget to share with your family and friends
