A group of seven us have swapped converse and trainers of choice for walking boots recently as we’ve trained to complete the challenge of the West Highland Way.
For those who don’t know, this is a 96 mile walk which begins in Milingavie, just outside Glasgow, and finishes in Fort William. We plan to complete the walk in just 6 days. Due to work commitments Georgia and Jenny L will complete the first 3 days, (46 miles) walking from Milingavie to Crianlarich.
With an ongoing passion for walking, we’ve certainly seen the steps increase post lockdown and last year we said in 2023, we’d complete the WHW. Training began for this challenge in January and since, we’ve dedicated most weekends to training. This has involved walking the five peaks of the Pentlands, seven hills of Edinburgh, Water of Leith and multiple other 15-20 mile walks across Edinburgh & East Lothian. Alongside our regular Tuesday walking club pacing the streets of Penicuik & the surroundings!
We’ve given up our weekends to train and thought that after blood, blisters and sometimes close to tears, we should definitely try to raise some money for a worthwhile cause.
We have chosen to fundraise for the Midlothian Food Bank Charity. Some weeks, the takeaway at the end of the walk or the panini pit stop has got us through! Not only do we recognise the impact the charity has on our local community and the benefits which such a service brings but we recognise there is definitely a connection between eating and strength and we hope by raising money, it gets us one step closer to everyone being able to feed their family. Times are tough for everyone at the minute with the ongoing cost of living crisis and we’d love to be able to soften the blow for the hardest hit families in our community.
So, if you can take the time to spare some loose change to our wee fabulous fundraiser, it would be greatly appreciated.
Massive thanks from us,
Jenny, Jenny, Bex, Georgia, Abby, Kathryn and Rachel xx
