Aim
We are providing a warm space for local residents to come and keep warm, meet new friends and get help they need to access services.
Who are we?
Wellspring Church has been working in Peterborough for over 50 years. In 2018 we moved to The Alpha Centre in North Bretton, Peterborough, and have been working in the community since then.
Community impact
We started our community cafe over 4 years ago and have now become an established part of the Peterborough community. Since November 2022 we have operated a Winter Support Hub in partnership with Peterborough City Council. This has meant we can offer food support and signposting as well as removing any charges for anyone coming into our cafe.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We have increased our opening hours since 1 November 2022 and started to provide lunch every Wednesday to anyone who wants to attend. We want to continue to offer this after 31 March when our funding comes to an end.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We are aiming to raise £5,000 so that we can continue our work as a Warm Space which we have been providing since 1 November 2022. £2,000 will go direct to paying for food supplies to provide to our local community in Peterborough. The same amount will be used to ensure we have sufficient staff to maintain our increased opening hours after 31 March 2023. The final £1,000 will be used to pay for our own utility costs which have doubled when we renewed our contract in 2022.
We continue to use volunteers where possible to help reduce costs but in order to maintain our extended hours we need to ensure we can have sufficient paid staff to maintain our services, especially hot meals every Wednesday.
