To upgrade the facilities at the club which will include new toilets/new disabled WC. Also, new shelters to seating areas around the green.
Who are we?
Sowerby Bridge West End Bowling Club is a small, friendly crown green bowling club run entirely by volunteers. We’ve been part of the local community for generations, offering a welcoming place for people to play sport, socialise and spend time outdoors. While bowls is at the heart of what we do, the club is also a social hub, used by members, families, local groups and community events throughout the year.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Our facilities haven’t kept pace with how the club is now being used. We want to make the club more inclusive, accessible and family-friendly, so more people feel comfortable spending time here. We are crowdfunding to help deliver much-needed improvements, including accessible toilet facilities and shelters for some of the seating areas around the green. This project aligns with Sport England’s aim to increase participation, reduce barriers to activity, and strengthen community wellbeing.
How we’ll spend the money raised
Every pound raised will go directly into improving the club. Funds will be used to:
Upgrade the male and female toilets to include the addition of accessible (DDA-compliant) facilities
Install shelters around the green to protect players, scorers and spectators from poor weather
We are keeping costs down by using volunteer labour where possible and carefully managing the budget.
Community impact
These improvements will benefit far more than just bowlers. All visitors and guests will appreciate the upgrade to the WC facilities. Older members and spectators will be more comfortable in all weathers with the construction of the shelters over the seating areas. The club is already used by local groups and hosts regular community activities, and these upgrades will allow us to widen that offer, reduce isolation and encourage people of all ages to be active and connected.
