Aim

The aim of our project is to raise the funding required to build cricket nets at Sunderland Cricket Club.

About Our Club;

Sunderland Cricket Club is a popular community club with a friendly atmosphere situated in the leafy suburb of Ashbrooke, a couple of miles from Sunderland city centre.  Sunderland Cricket Club was formed in 1808 and has played at our current location since 1890.

The cricket club is a member of the North East Premier League with four adult teams playing in the divisions of this competition.  We have a thriving junior section with All Stars and Dynamos cricket being played at the club as well as having U11, U13, U15 & U18 teams playing in the Durham Junior Cricket League and a U19 team who play in a knockout tournament.  We also have a growing ladies & girls section, with our ladies playing in the Durham Softball League.

What we are looking to fund;

We are looking to fund the creation of a quality two lane practice facility which will allow us to deliver many more coaching sessions to adult and junior members of the cricket club.  We are looking to increase the number of coaches so that we can add more sessions which will take place in the new facilities.

For many years now the practice facilities at Sunderland Cricket Club have been below par. And after another hard year, the nets are now in a condition where they simply cannot be used. We have obtained number of quotations to raise and refurbish the nets, we will be using any money raised to do this.

The old nets;

Why are we doing this?

  • Increase participation in cricket
  • Improve mental health and physical well being
  • Provide a community resource

We have successfully grown our junior section over the past few years using All Stars as a way to transform the clubs’ future.   We now have cricket being played on most nights during the week, all day Saturday and Sunday.

The refurbishment of our net facilities will allow us to continue to grow and offer cricket to even more children and adults in the local area. It also means that coaching can take place whilst matches are taking place on the grass pitches.

When we have been able to train during the pandemic the benefits of playing cricket for children and adults has become even more apparent than previously.  It has provided mental and physical stimulation in a safe and welcoming environment.  The All Stars, Dynamos and junior cricket played last summer was the highlight of the week, a chance for families to forget about covid, play sport and most importantly have fun.

The New Nets

Please Help Us!

Sunderland Cricket Club are working hard to raise the funding required to install the nets which is in the region of £35,000 but recognise the power of crowd funding and its ability to reach a wider audience.  Every penny that we raise will be spent on the nets and playing facilities and will transform our ability to offer cricket in the area.

Your donation, no matter how big or small is greatly appreciated and our heartfelt thanks go to you as we work towards hitting our target.

We have a number of sponsorship opportunities which are identified in the Rewards section, that are available.

This is what the new nets will look like!!
