Aim: We’re raising money to install 3 hybrid cricket pitches on our square for children, women and men to use from our community.

Who are we?

West Bretton Cricket Club has been at the heart of our community since 1907. Based in the beautiful village of West Bretton, Wakefield, we are an inclusive, volunteer-run club open to everyone — a place where sport, friendship, and community spirit thrive.

Today, we proudly field three senior cricket teams, competing in both the Pontefract and Barnsley Cricket Leagues, alongside offering junior cricket for Under 9s, 11s & 13s.

We also host women’s games as well as representative fixtures. We are busy!

But we’re more than just a cricket club — we’re growing into a true multi-sport hub!

In 2021, we expanded to include football, and now boast two senior football teams, plus junior squads for Under 9s all the way through to U13s. Our girls team plays at the club! Our outfield transforms into a training and match pitch during suitable weather, welcoming players of all abilities.

We pride ourselves on being a diverse, welcoming club where boys and girls alike can enjoy sport in a safe, supportive environment. Beyond the playing fields, we bring people together through events like parties, community gatherings, and the West Bretton Golden Jubilee Picnic — helping build stronger community bonds.

Every part of our club is powered by volunteers, passion, and the belief that sport can change lives.
Now, we’re reaching out to you to help us grow and thrive for future generations.

Why are we crowdfunding?

In 2022, thanks to your incredible support, we successfully crowdfunded and built brand-new changing rooms and toilets — massively improving our off-field facilities. We’re so grateful; it simply wouldn’t have been possible without you.

Now, we urgently need your help again.

Our cricket square is under increasing pressure from the huge amount of cricket played by juniors, women’s teams, men’s teams, district, county, and community users. Despite investing a significant amount of club funds to renovate the square — including removing the surface vegetation, laser-levelling, reseeding, and installing a new water harvesting and irrigation system — the high level of use means that the pitches risk rapid deterioration.

If we don’t act now, the bounce and quality of our pitches will decline, affecting the experience for everyone who plays here.

That’s why we are crowdfunding to install three hybrid cricket pitches at our ground in 2025.

Hybrid pitches are more durable, require less maintenance, and allow far more cricket to be played without damaging the surface. Installing them will:

  • Increase participation across all age groups and abilities
  • Safeguard the playing surface for future seasons
  • Ease the pressure on our grounds staff
  • Ensure cricket remains accessible and high-quality for our entire community

By supporting this project, you're helping us grow participation, keep people active, and continue bringing the community together through cricket for years to come.

  • More matches
  • Better quality playing surfaces
  •  Stronger, more inclusive community cricket

Please donate today and help us secure the future of cricket at our club — for everyone, for the future!

Thank you for your support!

How we’ll spend the money raised

Your support will help us create something truly special! Every pound raised will go towards installing three hybrid pitches, giving our community a top-quality place to play cricket for years to come. We’re aiming for £30,000 — and with your help, we’ll get there!

Community impact

Our facilities are used by children, women, and men across all levels of cricket. We also welcome local schools, visiting teams, and regularly host district matches and county age group fixtures — all of whom will benefit from the installation of three new hybrid pitches.

Beyond cricket, our ground is a hub for a variety of groups, including our football club and members of the general public, who use our space for a wide range of events.

As a club, we pride ourselves on staying connected with our community by organising events such as race nights, summer galas, Party on the Pitch, BBQs, and many more celebrations throughout the year.

By supporting this project, you're helping us strengthen our role at the heart of community life — creating a vibrant, inclusive space where sport, fun, and connection can continue to thrive.
