Following the development of our women's community surf group, we're looking for support to secure a storage system for shared equipment.
Wavy Quines is a women-led surf community based at Aberdeen Beach in the North East of Scotland.
When we started in 2022, there was very little sense of belonging in the water for many women. We recognised the need for a welcoming and supportive space where women could build confidence, learn new skills and enjoy surfing, regardless of their experience or ability.
Since then, Wavy Quines has grown into much more than a surf group. From supporting women through their very first surf lessons to organising community socials and regular surf meet-ups, we've created a space where women and girls can feel they truly belong, make lasting friendships and discover their place in the sporting world.
Today, our community has grown to more than 140 women. As we've expanded, we've identified one of the biggest barriers preventing people from continuing their surfing journey: the cost and accessibility of equipment.
We have now received funding from the National Lottery to purchase some surfboards and wetsuits that we can share with our community. However, we have nowhere close to the beach that we can store them.
This is why we are launching our crowd funding campaign.
Our goal is to fund a secure community storage space where Wavy Quines members and the wider community can access shared surfboards and wetsuits throughout the year. Having 24/7 access to equipment will remove a significant financial and logistical barrier, making surfing more accessible and allowing more women and girls to continue enjoying the sport.
The funding will be used for:
- A secure second-hand trailer unit than can be parked up at the Fittie end of Aberdeen beach ~ c£1000
- Budget to refurbish the trailer with flooring, paint and furnishings including surf racks, wetsuit drying and storage and water system for washing kit ~ £1000
This storage space will act as a hub and meet-up point for local surfers and instil a sense of belonging and ownership at the beach. It will also enable us to deliver more surf lessons to women and girls.
Whether it's a young family wanting to spend more time together at the beach, someone looking for an enjoyable way to stay active outside of the gym, or a woman taking her first steps into surfing, this project will help ensure everyone has the opportunity to get in the water.
Every donation, no matter the size, will help us create a more inclusive, accessible and sustainable surf community.
By supporting Wavy Quines, you're helping women and girls build confidence, improve their wellbeing, and form friendships that last a lifetime.
Thank you so much for supporting our community. We truly couldn't do it without you.
With love,
The Wavy Quines Crew 🌊
