Who are we?
Wath Upon Dearne RUFC is a community rugby union club established in 1930.
We have a proud history of developing successful teams and players at all ages and levels by supporting player wellbeing and connecting them to the local community. We are passionate about the game and strive to unlock the potential in each and every player.
Who are we?
Our Club has the family and the community at its heart and supports Wath and the wider community offering a sociable, accessible and fun environment in which we can welcome members, friends, visitors, community groups, volunteer groups, clubs and opposing teams to share our home. We have many second and even third generation players within our teams.
Currently supporting
Community Connect CLC
We have welcomed Community Connect CLC to share our facilities and grounds on a weekly basis and they are now an integral part of Wath rugby club. They are a local and innovative day service providing a person-centred approach working towards community inclusion for adults and young people with a mild to moderate learning disability. Through a collaborative agreement they have transformed a piece of overgrown spare land to the side of our changing facility into a sensory garden area. This not only provided training and activity opportunities, but we now have an external space which can be enjoyed by the club and the wider community. They also use the clubhouse a couple of days a week for social activity enjoying games and other activities and we both have an ambition for members of their group to assist in our café and food offering to players, families, and visitors.

Why do we need your support?
The COVID-19 pandemic has inevitably had a significant impact on the club generating income.
Return to rugby
The lack of any rugby games from March 2020 until (if we are lucky) September 2021 has meant a loss of income for the club and the community facilities
We have previously relied on our rugby games, supporters, social events, weddings and christenings to boost our income but since the covid pandemic clearly non of this has been possible.
This has all created a very uncertain landscape for grassroots sports clubs like ourselves and we are therefore looking to our community to support us so that we can in turn support the community with positive activities and meeting spaces for many more years to come.
Help us?
Wath RUFC are urging players, members, supporters and the local community to secure the longer term future of our community club.
We are already delighted to see the return of training and are hopeful that we can build the player numbers back to pre covid levels with the right support and motivation.
We are looking for your support to drive key initiatives that will enable men, women, boys and girls of all ability levels from the local community to enjoy the benefits of playing rugby for years to come. Our key goals to achieve this are:
1. Improve the coaching support for both juniors and seniors.

2. Provide essential Junior equipment and kit to allow the juniors to aspire to be the best

3. External Community spaces
External Space
We are looking to enhance the external areas to the rear of our clubhouse for both social and activity spaces. The area is currently a mix of grass, tarmac and has Hawthorne trees all of which pose challenges from both a maintenance and health and safety perspective. Our ambition is to divide and zone these areas into seating and hard landscape social eating and drinking areas with some shade and cover and a zone for both play and activity. This will include multi purpose fixed elements for fitness training, Astro-turf and soft surfacing and fencing to facilitate both play and well-being activities for club members and the wider community. This will be available for hire across the community throughout the week and at weekends as part of our event hire offering.
This helps the club to support its aims for years to come.

4. We desperately need to invest in our changing rooms.
The showers need upgrading (flowing, warm water would seem to be a prerequisite for a shower in the 21st Century ????). We feel this would be a major advantage for developing our youth teams and help retain players within our community.

Please, Please, Please help us to Return to Rugby and make the club a hub of our community.
The work we have achieved to develop the clubhouse so far is fantastic and is already making a difference, but we need to do more to make the massive difference to our juniors, senior teams and the Wath Community that we aspire to.
