Since 2019, Wasteless Market has held drop-off events where people can bring their hard-to-recycle plastic packaging, confident that it does get recycled, with the bonus of a charitable donation for every kg collected. Since 2019 we have raised over £580 for Kent Air Ambulance and other charities, and saved well over 500 kg of packaging from incineration, sending it to specialist recycling companies such as Terracycle, who turn the waste into products such as picnic benches, children's playground equipment, planters and more.
In 2020 we responded to popular demand by purchasing our first box to enable us to accept medicinal blister packs, which are not part of any of the free recycling schemes. Since then we have sent off over 800 litres of blister packs to be recycled.
Although our events are staffed by volunteers, there are expenses involved, such as insurance, hire charges for some venues, and the boxes for the medicine blister pack recycling scheme. As a not-for-profit company, Wasteless Market can only continue to run this scheme with the help of our supporters.
