Give families in East Lothian a ‘Warm Welcome’ with hot food, fun activities, and advice on finances, parenting and wellbeing.
Who are we?
Children 1st is Scotland’s national children’s charity. Our Musselburgh-based East Lothian Hub works alongside families who may be marginalised due to poverty, past trauma, additional support needs, or being in a kinship care situation. They are already struggling to make ends meet and the rising cost of living is making already challenging situations worse, with families having to choose between heating their homes or spending money on food.
What are we doing?
Our weekly “Warm Welcomes” provide some respite. Families receive hot, healthy food in a warm, friendly space. Children play together, having a wonderful time and building bonds, while giving adults space to chat, or speak to our specialist staff. They can access a food pantry to take some essentials home, or get money advice: help to manage debt, maximise income, access welfare entitlements and reduce energy bills. We will be offering one pot meals with recipe cards and a bag full of ingredients for families to recreate them at home. Future plans include bingo, movie nights and ‘cosy night in’ packs for families to take home with pyjamas, hot chocolate, and fuel vouchers.
Our reasons for crowdfunding
Reaching our target will help us cope with rising food and fuel costs, ensuring we can continue offering this support, offering families stability. We’d also like to help families purchase warm outdoor clothing to remove one barrier to them being able to travel to our group and connect with their community.
How can you help?
Please donate whatever you feel able to today, and share, share, share! The more people who see our page, the more likely we are to smash that target. Donations of up to £250 are generously being matched by the Coop Warm Spaces fund, so your gift will have even greater impact, if you donate today.
