Creating a Warm Community Hub that delivers vital charity cost of living services to vulnerable individuals and families during winter.

by Glasgow North West Citizens Advice Bureau in Glasgow, Glasgow City, United Kingdom

 New stretch target

The additional funding would allow us to keep our office running as a Community Hub for longer and give safety and security to our partners who call our office home.

Who are we?

Glasgow North West CAB is a local charity that empowers people through an advice service, training and skills. Our team tackles poverty and inequality in our diverse communities and works with many groups of people and partner charities to make sure people know their rights and entitlements.

We train staff and volunteer advisers to deliver accredited advice on many issues in someone's life including employment, housing, benefits, energy, debt and immigration. We resolve complex cases resulting in increased income and give people the tools they need to access information, opportunities and help others in the local community.

Community impact

Our small team of staff work with around 6,000 people every year, many of whom are individuals or families with children living in poverty. We also work with partner organisations to ensure accessibility and inclusion for women, young people, people with disability or ill health, families, Minority Ethnic groups, older and isolated people. We've been doing work with partner charities in the local community for over 40 years and are experts in linking services together to get people to the help they need as quickly as possible.

Why are we crowdfunding?

With rising costs and an increase in home-working, we have transformed our office on Maryhill Road into a Community Hub for vital local services. We are currently home to Lifelink Counselling, Glasgow Afghan United for migrants and refugees and Childcare Management training company. We work with these partners to provide advice trainings at Wellbeing and Support Groups and to make sure people can be referred between all of our services to prevent crisis. This funding will help us pay increasing costs to keep our office doors open for more than 500 vulnerable people and those living in poverty who need support from our advisers and partner organisations this winter.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Our partner organisations and the people they support are struggling with the cost of living crisis. We will use this funding to ensure we can host educational workshops and support Wellbeing Groups to help people struggling with issues at home, work, school and University because of the cost of living crisis. This funding will make a huge difference to the lives of vulnerable individuals and families with children this winter.
