'WALK AND TALK'

I'm doing a four day sponsored 'walk and talk' in west Wales to raise funds for The Miracle Inn, a brand new community interest company and membership organisation.  

I'll be taking a (very) winding route from Poppit Sands, through St Dogmaels, Cardigan, Penparc, Llechryd, Cilgerran and back to Poppit to finish. I'll be stopping to chat community, connection and climate with whoever I meet along the way.

I aiming to walk 50 miles, and talk with 50 people. 

Is this a challenge? Well, I'm not the fittest I've ever been, and also not the most extrovert person you'll ever meet, so it feels a bit daunting on both fronts right now! 

THE MIRACLE INN

We are in a climate and nature crisis, it is hitting hard, and continues to get worse. The environmental movement has tried to tackle it, but appears to have got stuck. 

New ways of doing environmentalism are, however, emerging. They look at the climate and nature crisis as a symptom of a deeper crisis and focus effort on root cause issues like inequality and hyper-individualism. We need them!

The Miracle Inn is a brand new membership organisation, it exists to support these new forms of environmentalism to develop and spread. It also exists to bring these new approaches to west Wales. We will launch officially on June 1st 2026. 

We'll work locally and globally:

• LOCALLY: Develop, test, and deliver new approaches to environmentalism in and with communities in west Wales. 
• GLOBALLY: Host online spaces (a virtual Miracle Inn) to share, shape, and spread the new forms of environmentalism that are emerging. 

Key to the new approach is the creation and use of 'social infrastructure', i.e. places for people to hang out, connect to each other and to nature and to start projects on the environmental issues that matter to them. 

The Miracle Inn will do this online and in real life in west Wales. And one day, we hope to open a physical premises, an actual Miracle Inn (but that's a whole other Crowdfunder and one for the future!)

HOW WE WILL SPEND YOUR MONEY

Through this Crowdfunder we hope to raise enough money to cover the essential start up and basic running costs associated with setting up The Miracle Inn as a community interest company. 

We're hoping to raise a total of £699.12 to cover:

• Companies House registration fee: £115.00
• Website domain registration: £16.00
• Website hosting (Squarespace): £204.00
• E-newsletter hosting (Squarespace): £132.00
• Zoom Pro (for online meetings and events): £139.90
• Public Liability Insurance: £92.22

These are our absolute essential costs, if we raise more than this, we will put it towards other running costs we expect to incur including graphic design support, IT equipment, and maybe even a launch party on the banks of the river Teifi! Crowdfunder transaction costs will amount to approx. £30, so if the Crowdfunder reaches £730 we will receive the £699.12 we need. 

HOW TO FOLLOW MY 'WALK AND TALK'

This is a slightly unconventional sponsored walk in that it lasts four days and involves many stops to have conversations with the people I meet. 

I am going to document the conversations I have as I go and hope they will provide insights into how people are feeling about their community, their sense of connectedness, and the threat posed by the climate and nature crisis that hangs over us all. 

This forms part of The Miracle Inn's launch activities. Our goal in spring and summer 2026 is to connect before we convene, we want to learn what's missing and listen to what's needed before we start building anything new.  

I'll share what I learn 'live' via our social media channels as I walk and talk, and summarise what I've heard each evening via our e-newsletter and blog.
