Go Girl guiding in Ghana

Aim

I am fundraising so that I can spend 2 months volunteering with the Ghana branch of the international girl guiding organisation,

Folashade is a 20 year old medical student that has been involved in Girl guiding since 2010.

This is what Folashade says about her project-

''Taking part in Girl Guides UK was an invaluable experience during my childhood. From arts and craft to navigation and first aid, I was able to have fun whilst learning essential skills. As a global organization girl guiding has reached many people, being able to work with a branch in Accra will be a very memorable experience. I hope to learn more about the history of the city and cultural customs, as well as enrich the lives of the girls in a similar way to how girl guiding here in the UK has enriched mine. 

As part of my project, I will be volunteering as a summer scheme learning mentor. Getting involved with the projects that Girl guides Ghana have been organising such as STEM education and menstrual health awareness. Having listened to past testimonials, those who undertake placements build long lasting connections with people that they meet. This should also facilitate a healthy relationship between young people in my local area and the Accra girl guiding group. Going forward I would like to encourage young people like myself to take part in these placements because it is a unique opportunity to take on a new challenge and learn more about another country.

 I have already raised more than 80% of my target but still need to get past the final hurdle. The funds raised will go towards my travel from the UK to Ghana as well as my living expenses whilst volunteering for 2 months. ''
