Vivienne needs urgent eye surgery to make good complications following two cataract operations. She needs a vitrectomy in both eyes.
Raising money to fund further eye surgery: a vitrectomy
My friend and colleague over many years, Vivienne, requires urgent eye surgery following cataract replacements that went catastrophically wrong, leaving her with significantly poor vision. This is now impacting on the quality of her life, both personal and professional. Without surgery, her vision will continue to deteriorate and she may lose her sight altogether.
What's the urgency?
There is a waiting list of over 2 years on the NHS for this surgery. The NHS has completed the first stage intervention to begin to address the problem. However, a vitreous hummer transplant (vitrectomy) is still required in both eyes to get her vision back. This is highly specialist surgery, without which the prognosis is poor. Only two surgeons in Scotland perform this corrective procedure. In order to have this done urgently Vivienne can only obtain the surgery privately. The cost is £6,000 per eye and she doesn't have the funds to pay for it. Hence, I need your help to fund the surgery for at least one eye.
Please can you help me raise the funds to pay for the vitrectomy? For more details about the surgery, click the link to the video.
