Aim

We are fundraising for Great Ormond Street Hospital, a hospital which is dedicated to the healthcare of young, sick children.

Our Cause

We've decided to specifically fundraise for Great Ormond Street Hospital because we believe that what they are doing for children is remarkable! As a parent, the worst feeling is to see your ill child, lying on a hospital bed and not being able to do anything about it. No parent should have to live through something like this, which is why we are fundraising for these kids.

We want to help these young brave children by giving them the treatment they deserve, and bring smiles and joy back onto their faces. For every 1,000 births, 5 children don't make it to their teeange years. Every child deserves to receive proper healthcare treatment.

We promise to donate the totality of the funds raised to the hospital. So rest assured knowing that your money will be going towards their treatment and research. The smallest donation could be life saving for these children. Don't wait, and donate to bring joy to countless families and chidlren! We're counting on you!

Our Project

In order to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital, my team and I had the exciting idea of virtual reality. Virtual Reality is the new kid on the technology block. In a short period of time, it has attracted so much attention that the concept is now worldwide. We thought this would be a great time to help students discover this new digital dimension!

Our project is to set up a stand in 4 of our univeristy's campuses (1 per day) and offer students the chance to pay and experience virtual reality. Being quite new technology, not everyone has had the chance to try it. This would be a great way to try a new experience, whilst helping a good cause at the same time! It's a win-win :)

Students will also be offered small tokens of appreciation (cards, t-shirts, keychains etc.) that have been sent over from the hospital themselves!

We want to emphasise the fact that 100% of all the donations raised at the stand and on crowdfunder, will be donated to GOSH!

Where does my money go?

Having been in contact with Great Ormond Street Hospital for the past couple weeks, they have sent us this table which clearly breaks down how the donated money is used, but more specifically where is it being used on;

  • contributing to the rebuilding and refurbishment of the hospital
  • supporting ground-breaking research into the development of new treatments
  • funding the most up-to-date equipment
  • providing accommodation and other support services for children and their families

In 2015/16, the charity spent £27.1 million

Divided in:

- 54% redevelopment

- 27% research

- 11% Medical equipment and capital schemes

- 8% Patient and staff welfare

Our Team

Our team consists of 5 international students, all studying in their second year at the University of Westminster. Individually, we are all different and none of us are similar to one another, but as a team we come as one and bring our best foot forward. We are organised and driven to help a good cause. We also belive in good karma! Wanna know more about each member? Check out our little bios below!

Louis Paradis (21): Along with Matt, I am the leader of this group and project! I originate from a small town in Belgium, where poverty is no stranger. Where I come from, there is a lot of countryside and farmers. I have seen many children grow into poverty, not having the chance that some of us have to make it out in the real world. I personally believe that everyone should have the right to a healthy life, and not be worried that you don't have enough money to pay medical bills. These are basic human rights, and I hate to see anyone be denied those rights because of technicalities. This is why I feel strongly about this project, and want to bring happiness in the lives of these children!

Matthias Fabrizzio Manthey (20): I study International Business in Munich and I've living in London for a semester abroad. Having lived in Lima the capital of Peru for over 5 Years, I came across children working on the streets, living in extreme poverty and without any prospect of a better future. Since I was a child back then, it clearly impacted my point of view on life, a lot. Coming back to Europe I realized things were not as dramatic but people still looked away on those kind of problems. A lot of people live their lives without knowing how serious the problems that sick children have to endure, even in London. So I made it my challenge to raise awareness of this issue and help wherever I can. I believe this project is about so much more than receiving  the money to buy more medical equipment: it is about letting the children in need, as well as their families know that there is someone who cares about them and that they are not alone in this fight.

Fleur Emeline Ngoulakia (20)Children are the future of everything. Should we have special reasons to help them? Should we explain why we want to help them? That is something I do not understand. Why justify a charitable act? I come from a continent where few children have a reason to smile, apart from living normally, going to school, playing with others, and loving their parents. Others can not do all this, not because they do not want to, but because they can not. This is reason enough for me to want to help these children  and give them a reason to smile when they open their eyes in the morning. Because I am the kind of person who thinks that every child on earth deserves to smile and laugh more than a hundred times a day.

Ry Webster (20): As our younger generation are growing older i believe that children's sickness is a horrible issue and as they are the next people to take over from what we leave it is only right to give them everything possible. Not only do I enjoy business but also making people happy and giving what I can, GOSH is the perfect place for me to do that. Hopefully with the funds we raise, we can help and put more smiles on young children's faces and change lives.

Zachary Jakob-Grant (20): I thought that Great Ormond Street Hospital would be a great charity to use because it helps to benefit sick children this is because the donations would go to increasing research on the battle against disease to help these children reach full health once again. Children are extremely important as they are the next upcoming generation. Personally I like to see children happy and smiling as it gives me satisfaction knowing that I have donated to a child’s wellbeing.
