I'm raising funds to help me purchase a van so 'The Rummiest Cakes in Cumbria' can be delivered to your doorstep.
With your help, the Vie's Jamaican Rum Cakes brand will gain visibility as our cakes are delivered around Cumbria, the North West and the throughout the UK in our van!

Vie was my mother. Her middle name was Viola but my dad used to call her
Vie (as in pie).
She was born in 1943 in Jamaica and died in 2018 in England, which had been her home since the sixties.
My mother was well-known for her scRUMptious cakes which were generously infused with rum!
When I moved to Cumbria in 2019, I was inspired to turn my loss into a legacy
and to honour my mother for the generous and talented cake maker she was, by reproducing cakes based on her traditional recipe.

I wanted to create a superior product which honoured my Jamaican origins and my new home, Cumbria. So, I was delighted when I discovered Jefferson’s 1785 Extra Fine Dark Rum at The Rum Story in Whitehaven.
Founded in 1785, Jefferson’s is a family wine and spirits business which, at that time, had interests in the Caribbean, interests with deep-seated links to the ‘Triangular Trade’ (slaves, sugar and rum). Jefferson’s 1785 Extra Fine Dark Rum, which is used in a special edition of Vie's cakes, bears testament to that.
I'll never forget the first time I drove to the Georgian town of Whitehaven over the spectacular moors or the first time I took the train along the stunning Cumbrian coastline to discover Whitehaven's Rum Story attraction.
The Rum Story brings to life the tragic story of the African slaves who were sent to the Caribbean to build the British rum trade. It's a truly unforgettable, moving exhibition which sheds light on the history of Cumbria. Indeed, our common history.

Vie’s Jamaican Rum Cakes are delicious treats for special occasions, offering cake lovers a taste of Jamaica on your doorstep!
The utmost care has been taken to ensure that both the original and gluten-free (GF) versions of the cake are as light, flavoursome and moist as my mother’s used to be.
The cakes are baked and packaged in an award-winning bakery in Kendal, Cumbria which has a separate gluten free kitchen.
They are made with local free-range eggs, local flours and the packaging is sustainable (biodegradable and compostable cellulose (cellophane) food grade bags and natural rafia).

Imbued with a spiced gold Jamaican rum (35%), these cakes melt in your mouth.
In French, doré means 'golden'.

Infused with a dark Jamaican rum (40%) or Jefferson’s Extra Fine Dark Rum (40%), the moderate taste of rum in these cakes creates a beautifully harmonious experience 'en bouche'.

Laced with a white over-proof Jamaican rum (63%), the distinct taste of rum in these cakes will leave you feeling 'irie' - Jamaican patois for (really!) 'good'.

Through Vie’s Jamaican Rum Cakes, I not only aim to create an exceptional cake experience which adds a bit of sweetness into your life, my objective is also to tell the story of Cumbria’s links with the bitter slave trade. By doing this, I'm honouring the memory of the slaves, without whom there would be no rum.
Above all, Vie’s Jamaican Rum Cakes is about honouring the memory of my Jamaican mother without whom there would be no cakes…and no me.

"After spending 20 years in France and the French West Indies, when I see ‘Vie’ I see the French for ‘life’…’ La Vie est belle !’ (Life is beautiful)"
Elaine, Vie’s youngest daughter & Founder of Vie's Jamaican Rum Cakes
Let us never forget the slaves who PAVED THE WAY for us to be able to enjoy rum in so many different ways today.
Let us give credit to the slaves who POWERED THE PLANTATIONS and built the rum industry because they are true heroes.
Let us commemorate the slaves who PAID THE PRICE for future generations to live in freedom.
