Who are we?
Ventnor Exchange is a bold experiment to try something different on the Island. A social enterprise with a mission to build an inclusive creative community on the Isle of Wight, bringing new opportunities and experiences to the area.
From the outset it was a project built from the ground up. The story begins in 2009 when a group of local teenagers created the Ventnor Fringe Festival, with little experience but a lot of ideas. In 2014 we crowdfunded to open a permanent home for the festival, Ventnor Exchange, transforming the town's old Post Office into a unique community space. It now combines a theatre, record store and craft beer bar/cafe hosting everything from a community choir to textile groups!
But right now we need your help more than ever.
Our bar and shop was created to help support our fundraising efforts and together raise the money to help us deliver incredible initiatives to support young people access creative opportunities, and to commission outstanding new work from both local and world renowned artists.
The cancellation of our shows and events, as well as the closure of our bar and shop, with the resulting loss of ticket and commercial sales, will significantly impact the work we can deliver. That’s why we need your help more than ever so we can bounce back stronger.
What do we want to do?
We need your help to raise the final £2,000 we need to launch a dedicated digital platform for young people on the Island, providing opportunities, funding, experiences, training and career development for young people in the arts and creative industries. In the last decade youth services locally have been decimated with services cut back beyond recognition. Now, more than ever, we want to create a bold, innovative programme, to rebuild confidence and inspire the next generation of Island talent.
Brave Island is a project we've been developing for over a year and is very nearly ready to launch, but with Ventnor Exchange now closed and having to reallocate resources to survive we need your help to make this a reality.
Your donation will be doubled!
Best of all, every single pound donated to our original £2,000 target will be matched by the Solent LEP as part of the 'Pay It Forward Campaign' meaning your contribution will be doubled!
There are also some great rewards on offer, including a very limited number of Fringe Friends for life!
