Our aim is to expand our bakery, and open a new shop in Balmedie. A place very special to us!
Vegan Bay Baker started in our kitchen at home back in 2019, after Zoe (Steve’s wife) went vegan and realised there was a huge gap in the market for decent vegan bakery produce. Steve has been baking since he was 17, working in various different bakers from The Ythan Bakery in Ellon to Ray Allan’s in Peterhead. When Covid hit, our home was turned into a fully functioning bakery, where we delivered 6 days a week to the people of Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Dundee. With the success of the lockdown months, we had enough capital to open our bakery in Newburgh. We were a wholesale bakery that supplied over 20 places a week, doing various farmers markets and events. In 2022 we opened our Peterhead shop, and our Aberdeen shop.
We both grew up in Balmedie, it has been a dream of ours to open a shop in the village where we had our childhoods and went to school in. This is the first time we’ve crowdfunded, we would love for our loyal customers to support us in our next step of our journey.
We are moving our bakery which is currently in Newburgh. We have secured a new premise in Ellon for production only. We need a larger space to accommodate exciting new projects we have in the pipeline, and to provide more options within our bakery.
We are a hardworking team of 13, providing delicious plant based produce for our communities. We completely understand that during a cost of living crisis, donating won’t be an option for everyone. Our aim is to open a bakers/sustainable living shop in Balmedie that is affordable and accessible to all, and to move our factory to a bigger premise. In Balmedie we will have a range of our produce, along with some grocery items for sale. We want to create a space for all to enjoy within a village we love.
