Valiant Lingerie

Aim

Valiant is a luxury lingerie brand designed for women who have had mastectomies. Valiant aims to support, empower and re-build self-esteem.

Valiant will offer a collection of beautiful, non-underwired, soft cup post mastectomy bras that are comfortable to wear, feminine and luxurious. 

I am crowd-funding to raise £1,250 to launch the brand online, begin to produce the collection and start to share the products with the women who need them.

I set up Valiant with the aim of creating beautiful, comfortable and alluring lingerie for women who have undergone surgery. 

Valiant was born out of my own experiences and desire to find comfortable post mastectomy lingerie that made me feel confident again.

Every year approximately 55,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed in the UK. Approximately 81% of people diagnosed with breast cancer undergo surgery to remove the tumour.

My name is Ellie and creating Valiant has been a passion of mine for several years.

Eight years ago I underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery at the age of 24. 

After the initial period of physical recovery, I became increasingly distressed by the lack of feminine post mastectomy lingerie and this continues to be a problem eight years later. 

Many women who have undergone mastectomies (and reconstructive surgery) are not able to wear underwired bras. I also find that I need bras to be lined with super soft fabric to avoid irritation of scar tissue. 

Over the past eight years, I have found that the majority of post mastectomy or generic non underwired bras are at best plain to dowdy and at worst look like medical garments. Following surgery, I found the process of acclimatising to my new body psychologically difficult and upsetting and the lack of attractive post-surgery lingerie added to my distress. I no longer felt feminine or attractive. Lingerie shopping became a harrowing and distressing event. 

More than anything, I wanted a bra that was comfortable to wear and that made me feel feminine and pretty. After years of searching for the perfect post mastectomy lingerie collection and not finding anything suitable, I want to create a collection for all the women out there who have survived breast cancer. Their bodies are amazing and they deserve to feel cherished, confident and feminine again.

I have some insight into the emotional and psychological recovery women go through post-surgery and my aim is to support, empower and re-build self-esteem with beautiful lingerie.

I am crowdfunding to create a collection of beautiful post mastectomy lingerie. 

All our products will be based on personal first-hand experience, thoroughly researched, carefully thought through and designed to create the most luxurious, feminine, soft and comfortable post mastectomy lingerie possible. 

All bras will be completely without underwires and feature super soft lining to avoid irritation to scar tissue.

A collection of post mastectomy bras will be available for women who have had reconstructive surgery and also for those who require a pocket for a prosthesis.  

Environmental impact is also important to me and therefore where possible, products will be made in the UK to keep carbon footprint to a minimum and to support British manufacturers.  

Valiant will mainly be available through an online store, shipping worldwide and hopefully also stock in some boutiques and stores across the UK.
