Aim

We have until 1st September to raise £40,000 to protect the Vale Square Garden for future generations.

In the heart of Ramsgate, tucked away from the busy streets, there is a garden that has been breathing life into this community for over 200 years.

Vale Square Garden is no ordinary green space. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful gardens in Thanet, a tranquil, historic sanctuary at the centre of town, and the only place in Ramsgate that connects to the town's sole woodland garden.

While everything around it grows more urban, Vale Square has remained something rare: a genuine oasis of nature, calm, and community.

During the Covid pandemic, when so much was closed and so many people felt desperately isolated, this garden became a lifeline. Families found fresh air and freedom here. Elderly residents found peace. Neighbours found each other.

It reminded us all how precious, and how fragile, spaces like this truly are. For over a decade, our small not-for-profit community organisation has cared for this garden on behalf of its members and the wider public.

Around 40 households are members, and many more visit throughout the year for wellbeing gatherings, community events, and simply to enjoy a moment of nature in an increasingly busy town.

Thanet District Council have kindly offered to sell the Vale Square East Garden to the Vale Square Association. The garden is on the council's asset disposal list. If we can secure the garden, it will be protected permanently from any potential use by land bankers and developers. We have until the end of August to raise £40,000.

We need your help to secure the garden.

A 200-year-old green space, the lungs of Ramsgate, could be gone. Not just for us, but for every family, every child, every elderly resident who has ever found solace here.

Every single penny raised will go directly to the purchase and long-term preservation of the garden.

Owning it means we can apply for grants we cannot currently access, host events that fund its future, make lasting improvements, and ensure that no council decision can ever take it from the community again.

We are volunteers. We are local residents. We are passionate about this place and the people it serves.

We are asking you to help us secure it, for this generation and for the next 200 years.

Please donate today. Share this page. Tell someone who loves Ramsgate.

Together, we can make sure Vale Square Garden belongs to the community it has always served.
