Aim

To raise funds for additional christmas lights and decorations for Urmston Town Centre.

Many Urmston residents and businesses alike have expressed their frustration at the lack of festive feel in the town centre - so Indie Urmston want to do something about it this year! Building on the Urmston Partnership's fundraiser some 5 years ago, we are looking to raise enough money to light and decorate areas of Flixton Road, Station Road and Higher Road which have been missed over the last few years. Maintenance of the existing stock is also required and we would also like to add more to the existing Queens Road Christmas Tree site.

A festive looking town centre not only helps us as businesses, but it makes residents and visitors to Urmston feel welcome, increasing footfall and securing the business for the future, and above all, it gives us all a real sense pride in our community, right?!

Our All-Or-Nothing target is £5,000

This includes crowdfunding page fees on the target raised + VAT + card transaction fees per donation. No funds are taken from your account if the final target is not reached by the deadline which has been set to coincide with the planned switch on event on in November.

FAQs

Who is organising the fundraiser?

Indie Urmston has agreed to co-ordinate the fundraising on behalf of the Urmston Partnership. Members have volunteered to undertake work on this, with help from other stakeholders.

Indie Urmston is an organisation established to connect the independent businesses of Urmston. It mainly covers Urmston Town Centre and anyone who operates an independent business in the area is encouraged to join. It has become an arm of the Urmston Partnership

We hold regular meetings about issues of interest to local business and promote / provide information via our social media accounts to attempt to increase footfall in the locality.

Who will be handling the money?

The Urmston Partnership bank account will be used to accept the funds and these will be ring-fenced for the intended use. The partnership committee are responsible for administering the finances on behalf of Indie Urmston.

What will happen to the money if the target isn't reached?

Money contributed via this crowdfunding site will be returned to the donor, as per the Crowdfunder T&Cs.

Don’t the council provide Christmas lights?

In a word, no. Local authorities across the country have the same issue with funding cuts from central government so need to make savings to maintain essential services.

Where is the Christmas Tree?

The Christmas Tree is situated at Manor Gardens on Queens Road.

Why do you want so much money?

Well, nothings cheap these days, so the purchase cost of new stock is significantly more than in previous years. On top of that, the costs of maintaining the existing lighting stock and using the council’s electricity supply, are set by Amey as part of its agreement with Trafford Council. We have no control over these costs and they are significant.

Will I be able to see what the money is spent on?

The nature of the fundraiser means the spend will literally be will be visible! We will also be posting images of the new lights in situ once switch on has happened.

Why can’t the businesses pay? It’s their businesses it’s affecting after all...

We are encouraging the local businesses to contribute, but many are having an incredibly difficult time on the back of the pandemic and the current cost of living crisis. The ownership of the high street is ultimately all of ours and we believe that together we can make Urmston a fantastically festive place to be this Christmas.

Can my donation be anonymous?

Yes this option is available when pledging.

I can’t afford to give much...

Every little helps, donations however small will help us reach our target. If every person in Urmston, Flixton & Davyhulme donated just £1 we would have in excess of £40,000! It’s all the contributions added together that make a grand total. We can’t do it with the support of just a few donors, reaching our target will require a large number of donations.
