To conduct urgent repairs to the building starting with the East wing which is exposed to the sea.
Cawsand Congregational Church has been at the centre of village life since 1662. During this time, it has seen countless weddings, christenings and funerals as well as being a place of worship for generations. The Hall has been home to many organisations and has witnessed multiple village and family events over the years.
Today this work continues. After years of service by the now retired Minister Rev Jill Murray the Church has called Rev Kevin Dudman to the pulpit. Our congregation is growing, and we are increasing the number of our services and activities. The hall is seeing increased life with our regular coffee shop on a Tuesday morning, choir rehearsals and craft fairs to name a few.
In the coming months the church will be running a Mindfulness course, and a Bereavement course and discussions are underway to launch a monthly Death Café in the New Year.
However, a recent surveyors report has identified that repairs are needed throughout this historic building, with the church needing to raise around £300,000 over the next few years.
As a Church we are determined to keep our building open, being conscious that we are the only remaining Church in the village. We are committed to continue to be a spiritual and practical resource for all in the villages of Cawsand, Kingsand, Millbrook and the surrounding areas.
This is also a great opportunity to make our church and hall accessible to all as a great meeting place for the church and village. We wish to ensure the building is fit for the 21st century whilst at the same time preserving our unique history.
To undertake the most urgent work in the next few months and to secure grant funding which we must match fund we urgently need to raise around £20,000.
