Aim
The global COVID-19 pandemic has created uncertain financial funding for our Club. The aim of the crowdfunding is to raise £20,000.
Our History
Uttoxeter Rugby Football Club, URFC, originated in 1975 from a works side at JCBamford Ltd, (JCB). The team were keen to play in competitive regional league and therefore established themselves as URFC in 1982 and joined the midlands league structure. Oldfield's Sports & Social Club, OS&SC, which was donated by Mr Bamford to the people of Uttoxeter became the home of URFC.
The start of Uttoxeter Rugby was celebrated with an inaugural match between England International/County XV and Uttoxeter 1st XV. Ex England International Jan Webster captained the visitors.
Our junior section, which started during 2000, has now provided many of the current 1st, 2nd XV players ensuring that the legacy of Uttoxeter Rugby is maintained and providing good quality rugby for our supporters.
Current Club Status
Our 1st XV has just been promoted to Midlands North League 2 and our 2nd XV is thriving. We also have a thriving Mini/Junior section with over 150 kids; Pre-Tag, U6,U7,U8,U9/U10,U11/U12,U14/15, U16/U17. We work within the community in many areas..
- providing a safe, fun, disciplined environment for local children to enjoy sport
- encourage children with learning difficulties to participate
- supporting local charities; mental health, cancer with our home game raffle
- supporting a young local girl who sacrificed her hair to raise money for children's cancer (photo below)
- Providing bar staff support to local "Lions" during the annual beer festival
- Our President's Day is dedicated each year to Parkinson's Disease which took the life of one of our founder members
- Support ex-players with home visits, food deliveries during Covid19
Why we need your support
We are solely dependent on local businesses for funding together with annual subscriptions. Covid19 has had a significant impact local jobs and businesses. Our families are struggling to pay annual subscriptions as job losses hit. Oldfield's Sports & Social Club has required to close resulting in a significant drop in revenues. We have not been able to generate our normal income from "end of Season Ball" or Fund raising events. Our operational costs are £30k, and Ground Improvements for the 20/21 season 10k. We require a minimum of £30k to launch the 20/21 Season. We wish to continue our work in the community.
What are we aiming to achieve
- Secure our operating costs for 20/21 season & our work with the community
- Provide free subscriptions to our mini/junior section maintaining numbers
- Generate Club Optimism verses the Covid environment through new season ground improvements
- Increase the size of the main pitch by rotating through 90 degrees
- New goalposts and Netting to protect traffic users from rugby balls
- Extend our flood-lighting to cover other 50% of new pitch position
- Set up new Colts team (U17/18)
Continue to Flourish
Our moto is FLOREAT (Flourish). We are seeking alternative funding sources to maintain the legacy of URFC and continue to develop the safe, fun environment for mini/juniors, seniors and our work with the community as started by our founder members in 1982.
