by MUSEUM OF WALKING in London, England, United Kingdom

 New stretch target

The more money we raise the more varied and lower priced events  can be offered during the first ever Urban Tree Festival

We want to bring the first Urban Tree Festival to London.  This three day event (18-20 May) will celebrate the trees in our streets, public gardens and parks and the role trees play in our lives.

Did you know London is a forest? – It is estimated that there are over 8 million trees in London and they cover around 20% of the city’s land area.  Not only do trees add to the beauty of our city, but they are also part of our heritage and are good for our health and mental wellbeing.

The Urban Tree Festival celebrates these marvels of nature through a series of walks, talks and other activities, available at subsidised cost (£10 per ticket, rather than £15-£20), but we need your pledges/donations to make this happen. So far we have scheduled activities ranging from mindfulness sessions to photography walks, walking trails (see the TiCL app) to stalking mulberries. But we want to extend these further with other events.

Our target is to reach £1,500. If we raise more than this we will be able to put on even more events

b17c0e3ce72ed8bfead195b7357edf4caee2fbb7Trees for Cities, the charity that works on an international scale planting trees and greening cities are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, and wishes to support the first ever Urban Tree Festival offering to match every pledge up to £1,500.  This means we would raise £3,000 overall.

Pledge today and make sure that even more people can join in the fun.

By making a £10 pledge you qualify for a subsidised ticket on one of our events. Just choose the events you would like to join from among the rewards on the right hand column of this page. Pledge £10 for a ticket to the event of your choice.

By making a larger pledge you qualify for other rewards and help us reach our target faster.

We would love to receive donations too. This  would enable us to run a competition with prizes for the best photograph, drawing, essay or poem.  We will honour you on our list of Urban Tree Festival Supporters too.

So how we will the money we raise be spent?

  • Subsidising 14 activities already scheduled  £1,950
  • Expected Festival costs - breakdown:
  • Insurances, permissions, venue hire and Chelsea Fringe registration  £320
  • Marketing, video, leaflets and domains £250
Recruiting volunteers & associated expenses £150
  • Administration, ticketing commission, bank charges £330

Urban Tree Festival - who are we?

We are a group of committed Londoners and tree enthusiasts (Andrew, Peter,  Paul and Mel), who over the last year, have run many different tree events, from photography to poetry, from mindfulness to tree ID.  We want to build on these and broaden the Festival so there’s something for everyone.

Andrew, founder of the Museum of Walking, devises events that get you learning about trees in fun and active ways.  His Twitter handle is @museumofwalking Peter is creator of Morus Londinium, a treasure trove of London Mulberry heritage.  He is a photography tutor as well. His Twitter handle is @LMulberries Paul is the author of “London Street Trees” sharing his knowledge of 300+ tree varieties to be found on the streets of London.  He is @thestreettree on Instagram / Twitter.  Mel is a Yoga and Mindfulness teacher with a passion for working among trees, helping others to find peace and reduce their mental chatter.  Her Instagram is @naturalhealthwithmel

We have been joined by Simon who has created the TiCLme app and website with which you can follow countless tree trails or discover art in the park.

THE URBAN TREE FESTIVAL 18-20 May 2018 - is produced by the Museum of Walking with the participation of TiCL Media Ltd. and supported by Trees for Cities

Who doesn't love a tree? And we all have a favourite. Perhaps it's one you walk by regularly.  We've been marvelling at the Mimosa tree this month and we know that soon the cherry blossoms will lifting hearts and adding comfort to those of us who live in cities.  How lucky we are to have so much divers beauty on our doorsteps.

We hurry to work often without noticing trees, yet they make us feel better and connect us to our higher self. Just looking at trees can be inspiring and calming. They bring colour and vibrancy to the urban environment, while their stillness reminds us of our deeper spiritual nature.

We hope you will agree that a celebratory URBAN TREE FESTIVAL is a cause worth supporting. Join us in celebrating our city's trees.
