To weather proof the church, preventing further decay. This will involve the tower being surveyed ,repointed and damp proofing installed.
We are a small team of people who aim to raise funds so that a contractor can be appointed to upgrade and renovate our church. We have designed a pilgrimage route that we have called Ceins way, that follows a path used by the people of the fifth century such as our Saint. Cein was born a daughter of the King of Brecon, sister to Saint Dwynwen and a Cousin of Saint David. She travelled extensively for a woman of her time, but ultimately settled and probably died in Llangeinor, South Wales. Our main aim is to weather proof the church building, built in her honour, so we can protect it for further generations. We hope to gain extra funding from heritage organisations so we can convert the church tower into accomodation for people wishing to walk the pilgrimage route from Brecon Cathedral to Llangeinor. This would mean installing heating, water and creating bedrooms, washing facilities and a kitchen. The tower will also be a point from which people can star gaze. Due to our location, we are blessed with dark skies as well as amazing views during the day. We will also need to print one thousand two hundred copies of the accompanying guide booklet, which aims to prevent people from getting lost. The walk is approximately 60 miles in length and passes over Sarn Helen, goes through waterfall country before passing from the Neath Valley to the Afon Valley. We will also need to work with the authorities to make the route safe and to advertise it, so that members of the public are aware of its presence. Any support that you could offer us would be greatly appreciated and help us realise our dream of not only establishing a new walking route that goes from Mid to South Wales, but also to raise £30,000 so we can protect a precious building from further decay. We aim to protect the tower, by repointing it so we can at a later date modify the building by adding suitable amenities and accomodation and can act as the base camp for people walking the pilgrims route, whilst remaining the church of Saint Ceinwyr.
