Deliver to more Rural Villages in Test Valley and Hampshire

In September we started providing our 'pantry on wheels' to the rural villages of Test Valley, helping people to be supported with good quality food.  The pantry is helping people when they have to choose between buying food or paying a bill, it prevents families and individuals from going to bed hungry and worrying when or how they will get their next meal.

We Need Your Help!

During the week we are supporting two villages of King Somborne and Stockbridge. Most of the rural villages have limited transport and have no local shop.  We have had so many other villages requesting our help.  They want to see the 'Travelling Pantry' visit their villages so that everyone can be supported.

Your support will help us to, not only support more villages, it will -

  • Provide a larger selection of Good quality fresh food
  • Support our growing members with essential pantry items
  • Have a tea/coffee area for a 'social chat'
  • Swap and Share

Harold's* Story

I was suffering from the rising cost electric, struggling to heat my home. The pantry has really helped me to pay some of my bills as I am able to eat for less.  The pantry helpers are really friendly and are always helping me with ideas on meals to make with the food I get.  Seeing them each week is great as I often do not see anyone for days as I live on my own. The volunteers are great and they do not make me feel unwanted.

How the pantry works

The cost is £5.00 each time a member visits the pantry, selecting twelve items per visit along with any free items.

Food in the pantry is either grown, surplus, donated or purchased food through funding. This food is then sorted and placed into the Pantry for families and individuals to select for the small cost.

Unity has two growing projects - The Allotment and The Long Acre.  These plant to plate projects support the Travelling Pantry with seasonal produce whilst giving volunteers the opportunity to learn new skills.

The vast majority of the food in the pantry is food waste.  Our aim is to prevent this food from going to landfill.  9.5 million tonnes food goes to land fill each year in the UK, help us to help people and prevent food waste through supporting the Travelling Pantry.  You can donate anything from £1.00 up, Vivid will magically double up any amount you donate.
