Unity Grill is a social restaurant in the heart of Ayrshire. We use 100% of our profits to challenge food poverty. Those who cannot afford to pay for a meal can volunteer their time in advance in return for a voucher to offset the cost of their meal. We believe this goes someway to restoring the dignity that food poverty strips from people. This isn't something for nothing. We are saying that people have value, their time and experience is worth something. In return for that time we give them a delicious meal. It's worth more than that though. It's about being part of the community again and enjoying the simple things we take for granted when we meet friends for lunch or coffee. If you can't afford to pay for food at home you certainly can't afford to eat out.
We want to challenge the stigma that comes with food poverty. There is no one person or group affected by this, it can happen to anyone of us under the the right/wrong circumstances.
We have created a beautiful space and we say everyone is welcome at our table.
However, we've been hit by a number of challenges between building and bureaucracy that have put a serious dent in our funds. We would love your support to ensure our future as our customer base grows to give us some security. We want to be around for a long time and show our community that they don't need to wait for others, change can happen when we all pull together.
