 New stretch target

Achieving our stretch target will help us further weather the challenging storm of this crisis, helping us to relaunch the Union Chapel. It will also help us build upon the work we're doing with and for the community, into the future, through more food, support and community engagement activities, to help us all recover from this crisis.

Union Chapel is an amazing, award-winning cultural venue doing genuine social good. Now, we need your help to weather this crisis and do more.

On March 18th Union Chapel closed its doors. We are now facing a minimum six-month and possibly longer closure. This could be hugely damaging to our future. As an independent venue, Union Chapel receives very little funding, and the revenue from our venue is the majority of our whole organisation's income - which then supports our charitable work with the communities and maintaining our beautiful building.

However our vital community work does and must continue, helping the most vulnerable people in society. We have escalated our community engagement activity through becoming a COVID-19 community emergency response hub for those most in need in North London (see more here).

Now - we need your help. We need your help to survive and come back as a venue and inspiring space. We need your help to continue our vital work helping the hardest hit in the communities in these times of crisis.

And, in return, we hope to bring more of the Union Chapel you know and love to your home, through our new exciting digital programme.

Please help – whatever you can give won’t just help us as a world-loved venue, it will help the struggling communities we are supporting across North London.

Inspiring Space, Inspiring Lives

Union Chapel is best known and well-loved as an astounding space and an award-winning music venue. We have a global reputation for international cultural events – and we are also known for supporting the most vulnerable communities. We host unique and innovative cultural performances and events that inspire and inform diverse audiences from London and the world. From music and comedy, to films, dance, spoken word, and social justice events - last year our programme attracted over 100,000 visitors through 250 unique events.

But we are more than a well-loved venue. We are a 200-year-old Victorian Gothic architectural jewel, with a unique organ and an amazing history of nonconformism, social justice, music and culture. For decades, we have supported the homeless and most vulnerable in society. Our Margins project offers food, advice, support & solidarity, night shelters and training for people experiencing homelessness. We are home to a progressive, inclusive church who works passionately on social justice issues. We have community and cultural events, programmes and food services aiming to support and empower the struggling and vulnerable and isolated in our communities.

And since we closed, we have refocused our spaces to become a COVID-19 community emergency response hub – an outreach support programme, a donation and redistribution hub creating support packages for homeless and vulnerable people across North London. This work will only continue and grow in demand over the coming weeks and months.

The Impact of the Crisis - and how you will help us

Now – we need your help.

Since closure we have already spent over £100,000 to keep going and running our community emergency response space.

We need your help to get through this crisis and come back stronger than ever as a venue. We need your help to continue our vital work helping the hardest hit in the communities in these times of crisis. And we need your help to keep our beautiful, unique building maintained and standing, ready for you and our communities to use in the years to come.

The funds will go towards all the work here that keeps Union Chapel going and help us survive this period of closure. This includes core operating costs, our homeless and community emergency response work, our building maintenance and our digital programme.

And, in return, we hope to bring more of the Union Chapel you know and love to you in your home, wherever you are in the world, through our new digital programme of culture, community and social justice, In Union.

With love, solidarity and in union with you all,

The Union Chapel Team & Community
