Aim

Creative writing classes for people in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, with the aim of publishing an anthology of poetry and prose

We have been doing a pilot at Hackney Recovery Service for the past three months, and have discovered a huge amount of writing talent. We've provided a trusted space for our developing writers to find their voices and express their stories. It's also bringing the personal into the public, in that our writers have only ever written for themselves and are now growing in confidence and realising that they have the potential to see their work in print. The group has been run by author and teacher Lily Dunn with the support of Alex at St Mungo's. Our belief is that the quality of writing produced is good enough for publication.

Lily Dunn has been volunteering her time for the pilot, and for the project to continue successfully and reach its goal of producing an anthology and inspiring others she applied to the Arts Council for a grant. Just before Christmas we had our application approved. This reach out through crowdfunding is in support of the funds awarded to us from the Arts Council, and so will go towards teaching and mentoring costs, but also extend out to invite other writers to visit the group and share their personal expereince of writing and road to publication.

We intend to teach creative writing to this group for up to a year, in which time we'll be organising some readings of the work that is produced, which we will publicise. At the end of the year we hope to have enough work to publish in an anthology, which we will launch in Hackney in 2018. Please add a comment if you donate. We'd love to know who you are and keep you updated.
