Under The Skin: A short horror film

Aim: I am looking for funding to fund my short indie body horror film! These funds would go towards equipment, locations and crew members

Emma is used to having bad experiences with doctors but one conversation leaves her body crawling with rage...or maybe something more.

Under the Skin is an indie body horror project about Emma Grayson, a 20-year-old woman who goes to the doctor with issues surrounding tactile hallucinations. After being denied the medication to deal with it, she is left to deal with something much more dangerous and sinister than just hallucinations: A flesh-eating parasitic creature that begins to slowly destroy her body and mind from the inside out.

What your funding would provide:

• Equipment (Cameras, lighting, SFX, sound, etc)
• Location funds (So we can properly hire out places to shoot!)
• Travel funds for cast and crew
• Payment for cast and crew
• Film festival admission fees

Under the Skin's story:

I initially wrote this film as a way to cope with my personal experience of being denied medication by the NHS and highlight the dangers of medical neglect surrounding mental health; however, the more I wrote the script, the more this film began to develop into something larger. It became a way that I could use the visual medium of film to represent what living with a mental health disorder is like. Additionally this film would be aiming to fight back against mental health disorders being stigmatised within the horror genre and portray them accurately and aim to create more empathy for those who suffer from it.

The Vision:

Under the Skin's horror would primarily be using SFX and practical effects for body horror and jump scares. I was heavily inspired by Dimension20s DnD campaign "Neverafter" as well as the films "Halloween", "The Babadook" and "Carrie (1979)" for the way they build up tension and dread in their films. The film would aim to use a body double as the creature as it slowly lingers around Emma as events begin to unfold. I would love to try to incorporate experimental camera techniques as well to emphasise Emma as her sense of reality begins to blur and dissolve.
