Aim

To tour Awkward Prods' new show 'Linus Karp Was Hit With An Umbrella' across the UK & Ireland in Spring 2027.

Linus Karp Was Hit With An Umbrella recieved 21 5-star reviews at Edinburgh Fringe - making it the third best reviewed show of the entire festival.

After its success at Edinburgh Fringe, we want to tour the show to the UK and Ireland, making sure it reaches people outside of Edinburgh. However, Awkward Prods is a self-funded small theatre company and we do not have the funds to do so ourselves. Amid rising touring costs, fewer and fewer fringe shows are able to tour, and despite our success at the fringe, we are not able to make this tour happen without your help.

In a time where hate crimes towards LGBT people have risen 112% in the UK in the last five years, we think it's important that shows like this receive a platform across the country. We are, of course, putting in what capital we have to make this possible, and we are not asking for you to pay our wages, but to help us be able to pay for accommodation, tech, travel, marketing, set - making this tour a reality.

We have not done a crowdfunder since 2022, but the current climate makes it necessary if this show is to have the life and future we think it deserves.

If you have seen an Awkward Prods show, you know that we are good at creating a lot on a small budget, so please know that every donation goes a long way. We also greatly appreciate you sharing this crowdfunder on social media or to your (ideally rich and generous) networks.

About the show:

Just before Fringe 2024, Linus Karp (Diana: The Untold and Untrue Story, Gwyneth Goes Skiing, The Fit Prince) was the victim of a homophobic attack. The case never went to trial... until now.

Linus Karp was hit with an umbrella. The attacker shouted that he would've killed him. Our new show retells the events and the aftermath - the police investigation, the public response, performing at Edinburgh Fringe days after and the heroic acts of Joseph Martin, and then dramatises the trial that never came to be... It's also funny.

'Linus Karp Was Hit With An Umbrella' marks an exciting new direction for Awkward Prods. This is an intensely personal story, but one that will resonate with many members of the queer community. Being attacked for simply being who we are is an experience so many of us know all too well. This show discusses the rise of homophobic/queerphobic hate crimes in recent years, and encourages people outside of the LGBTQ+ community to open their eyes and discover how they can help make a difference.

It is also, however, funny. This show explores its themes in the traditional Awkward Prods way - through humour, warmth, heart, and a dose of queer chaos.

Again, thank you so much for your support as always (and for reading this far!). Every little really does help, and we are very grateful for your generosity and for your shares of this campaign.

We love you, thank you.

Linus & Joseph, aka Awkward Prods xx
