Aim

I am raising money to provide access to counselling for those who have suffered a bereavement.

Part 1 of 2026 racing is completed. On April 19th 2026, I successfully completed an Ultra Marathon, running from Bath to Bristol and then back again. A distance totalling a little over 31 miles in length (just over 50km.) That is a full marathon, plus 5 miles on top for good measure. It was hot on the course but I am super proud to have completed this in 4hrs and 32 mins and placed 11th on the day (out of 62).

Next up, I'm going to run The Great Bristol Run - Half Marathon and another personal best attempt. Yes a shorter distance but still a long way, especially on potentially post Ultra tired legs!

And the following month (June), the Nailsea 10km. All 3 of them, will be all out personal best attempts so nothing will be left in the tank. I also have entered the Burnham Half Marathon in September!!

I am raising money for an amazing local charity, Somewhere House Somerset - to provide access to counselling for those who have suffered a bereavement and need time and space to grieve, with the support of fully trained professionals. This will surely ring a chord with you or someone you know right? The end of a life happens to us all but often times it happens unexpectedly and too soon. Life can be cruel sometimes in that respect.

Training for an Ultra or any race is not easy - in the case of the Ultra certainly, it has been 6 months of training, very early starts, lots of miles, strength and conditioning training, diet and so on. Add into that my own personal life and this year the diagnosis I received of an auto immune condition. Far from thinking this was the end of being able to run, something I love so much - it has spurred me on to manage the condition and use fitness as a way to aid this and become better, fitter and stronger as a result.

Last year, just one month after the diagnosis, I ran in the London Marathon, It was just the most incredible day. My family were there, the crowds, the atmosphere and my faith in humanity was restored that day. Seeing my family at mile 20 when I was hurting, I will remember this always. Being treated for some level of heat exhaustion at mile 21 (it was hot that day) and then feeling like I was being carried down The Embankment and onto The Mall. Finishing in a time of 3hours and 48 minutes, I achieved a lifetime best.

So it's time for the next challenges. These are all challenging in their own right but. this is my definition of 'fun' and some level of therapy, although perhaps not for some of you reading this. Alongside the very personal side of this, I want to raise money for this charity, so anyone who feels they need some support, can access it regardless of their financial standing. Private therapy after all, can be expensive and is often out of some peoples reach.

So if this has struck a chord and maybe tugged at the heartstrings, good. Please do support it. even penny raised goes directly to this cause. and if you're local to any of the events, the next one being Sunday 10th May in Bristol, come and support me and 20,000 ish other runners. It's an incredible atmosphere to be a part of!
