Mick and myself would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for making this happen. It’s just a few weeks to go now and it’s ‘squeaky bum’ time! The good news is that as a contributor to the fund you will get to see the episodes in advance. What’s more, they will be what we term ‘natural length’ episodes with no limit on their duration. They are likely to be up to an hour long. After you have seen the series (we will post it and provide you with a link to watch) it will then go to broadcast edit for cutting down to 30 or 45 minute episodes.
There is so much exciting stuff happening with the Rod race but suffice to say we have just one month until filming commences and we are due to finish mid-October. I expect you to be able to see the Rod Race sometime in the first quarter of 2025. Please visit my Facebook page @matthayesfish for regular updates about the rules and progress we are making.
So far no-one from the crew has claimed any costs or expenses. We have invested in some audio equipment so that we can eavesdrop in the rod race van and we have ordered some hard drives and other minor technical stuff. The travel starts soon but we have accounted for it. So far, we have spent very little. However, we have prepared a budget and accounted for all of the funds provided. We also have a Wishlist of enhancements we would like to make to the series to make it even better and brighter. These are graphical mainly but also include music and other effects. The fund is held in a separate account by our production company and the budget is made according to proper broadcasting industry norms.
I will keep the fundraiser open for as long as possible, to give folks the chance to watch the longer eps and in advance of main release. It will also provide us with some extra income that will be spent on better graphics, music etc., which I describe above.
I sincerely hope you understand the gratitude that the Duke and myself have for your generosity and support. You have been amazing and we will do everything in our power to deliver the peoples’ show!

Hi, and welcome to the official fund-raising page for The Ultimate Rod Race, the brand new fishing series starring Matt Hayes and Mick Brown. Matt and Mick really are angling royalty, having already made timeless series including The Great Rod Race, The Greater Rod Race, Wet Nets and Record Breaking Fish amongst many others. Not only that, they are long-time great friends and fishing partners - the chemistry between the two is clear for all to see in the programmes, with laughs galore and mutual micky-taking, alongside years of fishing experience and expertise.
The Ultimate Rod Race is the long awaited and much called-for new series made up of six brand new episodes showing Matt and Mick at their very best, accepting challenges to catch different species of fish in each show. It has been massively welcomed and clamoured for by their huge following, and to say the excitement and anticipation for this is huge is a big under-statement. The money raised in this project will fund the filming and editing of the videos shot; as well as top quality video of the lads fishing each venue, there will also be amazing underwater footage too. On top of that we need to cover all expenses along the way including accommodation for all involved, food and drink and of course, travel.
We are all unbelievably excited about this project, and know we can rely on you, the fans of Matt and Mick, to donate what you can - ideally 20 pounds - and thus play a valuable part in putting together The Ultimate Rod Race!
