Aim: A Saturday school for Ukrainian children has opened in Bristol to pass on their language and traditions.
The first Ukrainian school in Bristol opened its doors on Saturday, May 25th, with the goal of preserving the language and culture for new families arriving in the city to escape the war in their homeland.
Location: Ukrainian Hub Westbury on Trym Methodist Church, 46 Westbury Hill, Bristol BS9 3AA.
This initiative marks an exciting moment for our Ukrainian community. Our aim is to create an enriching environment where children can immerse themselves in the beauty of Ukrainian heritage. Through lessons and playful activities, they will learn about traditions, history, and language, all while connecting with peers who share their native tongue," says the Founder of Ukrainian School Bristol, Antonina Grebeniuk.
Antonina, a Ukrainian who has lived in Bristol with her family, is well-known in the Bristol Ukrainian community for organizing the Ukrainian Independence Day on August 24, 2023, and co-organizing the "Ukraine Not Forgotten" commemoration event on February 24, 2024, at The Galleries.
Recognizing the community's needs, aims to help Ukrainians as much as possible by creating a school where learning the Ukrainian language and culture will be enjoyable, uplifting, and accessible.
The Ukrainian School Bristol is proud to announce their partnership with the Ukraine Aid and Welfare Charity, founded as well by Antonina Grebeniuk, and trustees William Maude-Roxby, Tetiana Bezsmertna, and Oleksandra Vereshchagina.
"We are thrilled to witness the pride and joy that children experience when communicating in their own language," says Trustee William Maude-Roxby. "Our school serves as a vital hub for students to connect with their peers and maintain a strong bond with their cultural heritage. It's truly inspiring to see the positive impact on their sense of identity and community. But the Ukrainian School is not our only project that needs funding. There are other urgent and heartbreaking causes, such as the plight of premature babies in Ukraine who desperately need our support."
This collaboration will strengthen our mission to promote Ukrainian culture and support our Ukrainian community in Bristol and the surrounding areas.
