We are three Ukrainians who came to the UK after the start of the war. We want to introduce you to wonderful Ukrainian cuisine.
Hi,
First of all, we want to thank all who are supporting our country during this difficult time. We were forced to leave our homes, our beloved country, and together with the children began a journey into the unknown. After arriving in the UK, we were given tremendous support, not only about housing, medicine, education, and food, but about moral support, and kind words. You are wonderful people, thank you!
About Us
We are three Ukrainians - Yuliia, Kateryna, and Olga, who, together with their children, arrived in North Wales in April 2022 under the Homes for Ukraine program. We all have sons - Tymur, Mykyta, Vladyslav and Myroslav. We have different professions, but one thing unites us - a passion for cooking. We love Ukrainian cuisine very much, but some local dishes also aroused great interest in us. We even figured out how to mix some British and Ukrainian dishes and include them in our future menu.
Our goal
We want to open a Ukrainian restaurant in North Wales called Sunflower. The menu will include borsch, dumplings, Kyiv cutlets, as well as mixed Ukrainian-British dishes.
The minimum goal is a food truck, but the dream is a restaurant. The difference in the cost of implementing these projects is colossal, but a full-fledged restaurant will allow us to diversify the menu and conduct culinary experiments more often.
For the first two months, we got acquainted with the local culture and peculiarities of life in the UK and intensively studied the language at Menai College in Bangor. Our children are going to local schools in Penygroes and Pwllheli. To keep in touch with Ukrainians who come to North Wales, we have created a Facebook group Ukrainians in North Wales + Welsh/UK friends. We already have more than 300 people in the group and we also plan to provide a part of the Ukrainians from this group with work in the restaurant.
Recently, we have studied a lot of materials about the nuances of opening a restaurant in the UK, and therefore we approach the project with knowledge of the matter (a place for a restaurant, decoration and renovation, equipment, licenses and permits, marketing and personnel). Also among our friends, there are owners and employees of restaurants who can help with advice in case of any difficulties.
North Wales is a tourist destination, visited by thousands of people every year, and therefore our dishes can be enjoyed not only by local residents but also by residents of other parts of the UK.
Now many Ukrainians who were forced to go abroad are trying to help our soldiers and volunteers in some way. Because the soul hurts when you see the chaos and destruction that came to our beloved country. So, we will spend part of the profits on the Funds to help Ukrainians affected by the war.
Thank you! With love, Yuliia, Kateryna, and Olga
