The UKWOT is made up of a small team of volunteers, none of whom receives any payment for the work that they do. We are made up of Dave Webb - the founder, a group of volunteers who helped build the otter rehabilitation site, and a team which runs the shop, fundraising, and social media.
Our vision overall is to rehabilitate injured and/or abandoned otters and release them into the wild. Our mission for this campaign is to raise money for a rewilding enclosure, this would allow us to have a place for otters to be put into just prior to release to acclimatise them to the wild environment for a safe and more successful release. It will feature items to help simulate their natural environment, such as a pool with moving water. Money raised from the campaign will be used in the following ways
If we successfully raise the necessary funds for our rewilding enclosure project, the allocated budget will be strategically utilized to ensure the effective creation and operation of the enclosure. The funds will be primarily allocated to the following areas:
Construction and Infrastructure: A significant portion of the budget will be dedicated to constructing the rewilding enclosure. This includes building a larger pond with moving water, designing and constructing natural features, creating appropriate fencing, and establishing the necessary infrastructure to support the well-being and safety of the otters.
Land Acquisition or Lease: If not already secured, a portion of the funds may be used to acquire or lease suitable land for establishing the rewilding enclosure. This ensures a dedicated and secure space for the otters, providing them with a natural and protected environment.
Habitat Enhancement: To create an optimal habitat within the enclosure, funds will be allocated towards enhancing the natural features, such as vegetation, vegetation cover, and nesting areas. This includes planting native vegetation, ensuring suitable shelter options, and creating a diverse and sustainable ecosystem supporting the otters' needs.
Professional Expertise and Consultation: Investing in professional expertise and consultation is crucial to the success of the project. Funds will be utilized to engage specialists such as ecologists, conservationists, and otter experts who can provide valuable insights and guidance throughout the project's planning, construction, and ongoing management phases.
Ongoing Maintenance and Monitoring: It is essential to allocate funds for the long-term maintenance
