Aim

To support Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic community women and children who are victims of domestic abuse during COVID 19 and beyond.

The Urban Development Foundation (UDF) is a leading regional charity that works in close partnership with communities mainly around the West Midlands with the aim of developing and strengthening community infrastructures. Since being founded  in 2004 and registered with Charity Commission (registration number 1105249), we have helped hundreds of people in distress but work has only just begun, with your help we aim to support many more by building a brighter future for those in need.

We have a team of 3 staff members that are appointed to serve the community on our behalf. Our staff members background are from the BAME (Black, Asian and Minor Ethnic) community which helps them relate to the issues, culture and values of the community we work with. They are all are multilingual so that they can support the diverse ethnic community in the West Midlands.  We also receive support from volunteers. Currently we have 3 volunteers who are offering their time to help during the pandemic as we have received an unprecedented number of requests for advice and support during the period.

Our goal is to support all our members and ensure have the support and resources they require. We typically offer support surrounding the following issues: mental health, family, personal and financial.

The money raised from AVIVA Community Fund will help to pay for staff, counselling sessions, training for service users as well as training for new volunteers and staff.  As a part of this project we will undertake an awareness programme in the hard to reach BAME community in Birmingham which will provide information about the cycle of domestic violence and how a victim of domestic abuse can reach us or reach the appropriate authority or GPs.
