Newham Bookshop: 40 years on, two doors down
Newham Bookshop has been serving the communities of east London for 40 years. We will to continue to provide our excellent range of books for adults and children into the future. To do this we’re moving our Adults’ Bookshop two doors down to 743 Barking Road.
Our landlord is planning to develop the upper floors of 747 into offices, including one-third of the shop area. This would have caused massive disruption. Then the empty shop at 743 came up and we jumped at the chance.
We’ll be relaunching Newham Bookshop in 743-745 Barking Road at Christmas but we need your help. We need to raise around £25,000 to cover heating, lighting, power and fittings for 743. We are asking our friends and supporters to make pledges.
We are also holding auctions for signed copies of books generously donated by authors and publishers.
In the new Bookshop, we will dedicate the local history section to our much missed friend Gilda O’Neill. We will also dedicate certain shelves to supporters pledging £250 or more.
