Let’s turn Edinburgh Green in 2027!

Aim

The campaign starts now - help us make history and have the Greens govern Edinburgh for the first time.

We have just had our best ever election result. Now we could turn Edinburgh City Council Green next year, and we need your help!

The Greens are on the rise everywhere:

• Last week we went from 7 Scottish Green MSPs to 15. 
• In Edinburgh & Lothians East we won 4 Green MSPs, more than ever before.
• Lorna Slater made history as the Greens’ first constituency MSP for Edinburgh Central. 
• We won the most regional list votes of any party in Edinburgh and were 0.6% away from winning the most votes across the entire Edinburgh & East Lothian region. 
• Meanwhile, The Greens in Wales were elected to the Senedd for the first time. In London, the Greens took control of councils that Labour have held for half a century. 

Let’s take this momentum and go even further. In May 2027, elections to the City Of Edinburgh Council will take place and more Green seats on the City Council could see the Greens govern Edinburgh for the first time.

At the last council elections in 2022, the Greens won ten seats. And with those ten seats we’ve won huge investment in social housing through fairer taxation, and protected communities from the worst of the cuts and got the council to take climate action more seriously. Just think what we can do with even more Green Councillors in the city chambers. 

It would mean putting Green policies into practice in our city:

• Using rent controls to make sure that everyone has a warm, safe and affordable home.
• Building a fair public transport system to slash air pollution, boost public health, and ensure everyone can get around the city safely and cheaply.
• Challenging the far-right and making sure Edinburgh stays a welcoming city for migrants and refugees.
• Protecting our green spaces and making sure everyone has access to nature.

To make this a reality, we need to raise money to run our best-ever city council election campaign.

We will likely see Reform electing their first city councillors in Edinburgh. We need the largest-possible group of Greens to push back against their toxic politics - making Edinburgh a Green city would keep this city welcoming and open to everyone.

• £750 will pay for a leaflet so that our volunteers can tell everyone about what Green Councillors have won and what more we want to do. 
• £1,500 will help us host meetings in places we don’t have a Councillor yet, inspiring local people to get active and get involved.  
• £2,500 will make sure everyone in Edinburgh will be able to vote green. We want to stand a candidate in all 17 wards across the city and that means getting out more newsletters, posters and canvassing cards than ever before.
