Aim

Fundraising for Turkey earthquake emergency aid to help provide essential items through groups on the ground.

More than 30,000 people lost their lives and thousands were injured in the earthquake in Turkey on Monday. We fear that the numbers will continue to rise.

The magnitude of the earthquake is huge. Tens of thousands of people lost their homes and livelihoods in the earthquake, which caused great destruction that spread to ten provinces and the surrounding countries. The earthquake's effect on a wide area; continued new earthquakes and aftershocks; damage to thousands of buildings and winter weather conditions make it even more difficult to get help to those that need it most.

In natural disasters, it is possible to minimize losses to life and infrastructure with good planning. However, we know that poor building control regulations and non-earthquake-compliant buildings, widespread in the area due to unnatural desires to make the highest possible profits have led to the level of destruction we are witnessing today.

We call for solidarity and cooperation to ease the suffering and heal wounds. As DAY-MER, we call on all to support our campaign as they can. We will send any aid and/or donations that reach our community centre here in London directly to those affected by the earthquake, through campaigns by socialist and democratic institutions and organizations in Turkey.

It is paramount that the aid reaches those in need without any bureaucratic obstacles. Previous experiences taught us that, help through trusted organisations on the ground ensures the delivery of help to those in most need. Please show solidarity by joining and supporting the campaign we have started to help heal the wounds of all those affected by this disaster.
