Aim

Anti-graffiti coating for our mural

The Riverwalk is a beautiful stretch of nature in a highly built up area of south London. My project is with Youth First local kids, and we are creating a bright colourful entrance to the Riverwalk from the Bellingham estate. We have started painting a nature-inspired mural on the outer walls and inside the Network Rail tunnel. The tunnel is on the popular Waterlink cycle route. It is regularly used by locals going for walks along the river, people going to the rail station and to the Bell Green shopping area just the other side of the river. We want to make it a friendly and happy space.

I have planned this art project with Youth First (a not-for-profit organisation for young people in Lewisham) for over a year and managed to source funding from Bellingham Assembly, £800 for 80m2 which works out £10/m2, a shoe-string budget – but already it is looking beautiful, the kids are enjoying the experience and locals have responded really well. All my time, except for a small design fee - and the painting work by the kids is voluntary. It is great to be involving young people in such a positive and artistic activity, especially as Lewisham is in the 20% most deprived areas in England (www.valewisham.org.uk/lewisham-facts-and-figures).

However, the budget won't stretch to anti-coating paint, which communityclean.co.uk can provide for £12/m2. I would like to preserve our mural from any defacing with this clear and permanent coating on the outer walls, which will cost us £252 (£272.16 including the 8% Crowdfunding fee). I figure if 273 people can give one pound, we can afford this.

Please do not be put off by the Crowdfunding average of £10 for the starting amount to pledge - if I could change the settings, I would. The minimum pledge is £1 and would be a great help.

Please help us protect this community artwork, which is already starting to brighten up a dark and gloomy public space and is intended to show how we care for the area and nature.
