Aim

To brighten up the borders of the main park area (where the railings are) with an abundant mix of tulips and the installation of bat boxes.

Fruits of Douglas Park is a community group, currently comprising 14 participating members, benefiting from the wider support and engagement with the majority of residents in the Douglas Park estate (34 homes).

It was set-up in January 2022, with support of Wigan Council's "Improve a Greenspace Scheme", in response to the opportunity created when the council cleared an area of Douglas Park which contained some dead trees and was heavily overgrown and poorly maintained.

The aims of this group are:

- To develop the horticultural & natural landscape of the public commons in Douglas Park.

- To promote recreational activities, mutual support and joint aid among our members.

-To establish and maintain conditions for wildlife conservation and production of fruits for community consumption.

-To use conservation and horticultural practices to share culture and experiences.
