Aim
TSC aims to remain financially viable, meeting the increased costs of pool hire, for the duration of social distancing requirements.
Rewards are not available after 21 December and will be distributed on 22 December.
The Covid-19 pandemic is having a huge financial impact across society, on individuals and their local community sporting groups.
Tewkesbury Swimming Club is not alone in not being able to train during lockdown, as leisure centres have closed and group activities stopped.
Back to the Pool
Working together with Tewkesbury School, Places Leisure at Tewkesbury Leisure Centre and numerous dedicated volunteers the club returned to the pool in a COVID-secure way in August. Our coaches and swimmers felt safe to resume regular training, benefitting both their physical and mental health.
Lockdown 2.0 has brought a second, abrupt halt to training. We hope to return to the pool again in early December, with the support of our volunteers, venues, swimmers and families.
The club is hugely grateful, but training is not the same. Group size are limited, pool sessions are fewer and shorter, changing rooms are mainly off-limits and swimmers must distance from each other, even in the water.
Our swimmers have shown immense resilience and flexibility in adapting to these changes, and their enthusiasm and obvious enjoyment of their sport encourages us all to keep going. Our volunteers have stepped up to the plate too, taking on additional duties and responsibilities on an almost daily basis.
Ongoing Expenses
Sadly, in financial terms, the cost of hiring facilities is now significantly more per head per hour than it was pre-COVID. We can have fewer swimmers in the pool at one time and facilities are closed regularly for cleaning. In order to maintain financial accessibility for all its swimmers the club is not in a position to cover its full running costs at this current time.
Your donation will provide essential support to ensure the long-term survival of the club in these challenging times. By helping to meet the additional running costs of the TSC as a result of COVID-19 you will keep swimming affordable for current and future members.
