'Trying together for Camborne' aims to raise funds to improve and future proof the changing rooms at the iconic 'Rec' and forms phase 3 of' Project 2018 The Refurbishment Of The Recreation Ground'.The launch of this campaign has been supported by our local MP, County and Town councillors the local business community our supporters and the community as a whole.
The Project commenced as the title suggests in 2018 with the aim to raise funds for the overall refurbishment of the 'Rec'
Phase one the West Bank improvement has already taken place to the delight of the supporters.
Phase two will commence in April 2019 and will include two new sets of gates at the main entrances, the laying of a new mains water pipe and the improvement of the hot water system in the boiler house.
We also hope to relocate the food and drink outlet at the Rec which is known as the 'Cubby Hole'.
Phase three 'The refurbishment of the changing rooms' is by far the most awe inspiring part of the Project and will serve to strengthen the ability of the club to provide facilities for the community.
“ Family is key to our success. Many of these families are in the 3rd or 4th generation of involvement. The spirit in our Club is unrivalled. Countless hours of dedicated service are given on a voluntary basis to make the best of our outdated facilities at the Rec. Now is the time to upgrade and go forward.”
We are delighted to have the support of Newcastle Falcons and Fiji International Josh Matavesi

'Please get behind Trying together for Camborne and help in any way you can to upgrade the facilities at the Rec.
Camborne Rugby Club is a great family club where it all started for me.
The people and community are fantastic and the social facilities at Crane Park are top notch.
The facilities at the Recreation Ground are dated and tired having changed little since my time playing in the Mini/Juniors with my brothers.
Now is the time to improve and modernise these areas which are vital for the current and future players to prosper.'
Two years ago in an incredible show of support more than 4,000 local people signed our petition to ‘Keep Rugby at the Rec’. This eventually led to the Camborne Recreation Ground facility being safeguarded for future generations with the award of a 99 year lease, granted by the Town Council.
Last year with the help of the Town Council we gained Field in Trust status for the ground which will safeguard its use for recreational purposes for the whole period of the lease.
Camborne Rugby Club now finds itself as custodian of the facility requiring in excess of £100,000 to invest in upgrading and modernising the outdated facilities as well as a raft of health & safety compliance projects.
A variety of enhancement works are necessary to improve and future proof the changing rooms which will be fully RFU compliant and suitable to support what is needed and expected in the modern game.
We are the largest sports and social club in the Camborne area. Our members range in age from young people of 7-8 years to the older generation of 70-80 years +. Our membership of more than 400 is drawn from a broad cross section of the local community, many of our members are involved in other local organisations and represent the views of these groups within our Club.
We are an RFU Accredited Club with all the necessary governance and safeguarding processes and procedures in place. More than 200 young people in our Mini/Junior section use our changing and welfare facilities as well as 30 plus females in our dedicated fledgling Ladies/Girls section.
We are a vibrant, family centred organisation that is recognised by the wider community as a vitally important resource in an area of high levels of economic hardship and deprivation. Should the fabric of the facilities at the Rec deteriorate further without investment these benefits are at risk.
It is well documented that Camborne is a deprived area with high levels of youth crime, of young victims of crime, unemployment and poor access to services and housing. In our area people are less healthy with associated high levels of smoking, obesity, inactivity and long term illness.
Sean Coombe Chairman of the clubs Mini & Junior Section says.
“On behalf of the Youth Section I am looking forward to getting involved with the continued improvements of the facilities at the ‘Rec’. I have been involved with the Youth section now for 10 years and have seen the section grow tremendously during this period.
I am proud to be part of a club that is building first class facilities. The improvements to the grandstand and changing facilities will not only benefit the current crop of talented youngsters, but will be an asset to all future generations of players at the club.
We have successfully raised our profile in the community over recent seasons and local people take immense pride in our Club. Our facilities are really valued and extensively utilised for a wide range of events and functions. More than 100 such events/functions are held each year. Our support for local and national charities and organisations helps build community spirit.
The facilities we offer play a vital role in our success. Volunteers, the wider membership and the local community facing difficult economic times can be inspired to continue to give time and utilise our facilities if they are valued and of sufficient quality. We have succeeded in gaining many small scale sponsorship packages from local businesses and the income derived sustains our sporting activity. Improvements to our facilities help inspire more new volunteers to assist with running our organisation, provide an enhanced venue to train more coaches and officials, persuade former players to return to support us and galvanise and give hope to the wider community providing facilities all can take pride in.
