Help Bring Trivergence: A New Trombone Recording to Life
Some musical collaborations happen by chance. Others begin with a single conversation that grows into something extraordinary.
Trivergence began with a simple idea: to bring together three of the UK's most distinctive trombone voices; Andy Wood, Mark Nightingale and Peter Moore, and create a work that could only exist through their collaboration.
Although each has forged a unique career across orchestral performance, jazz, commercial music, solo performance and composition, they share a belief that great musicians are artists first. Their different musical backgrounds are not barriers but strengths, bringing together contrasting voices, experiences and ideas to create something genuinely original.
The Music
At the heart of the project is Trivergence, a major new work composed by Mark Nightingale especially for Andy, Mark and Peter. Conceived as a musical conversation between three distinctive artists, the work explores the individuality of each soloist while celebrating the remarkable expressive range and versatility of the trombone.
The recording will also feature Mark Nightingale's masterful arrangement of George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, alongside further works that showcase this extraordinary ensemble.
Playing alongside the three soloists is a handpicked trombone octet comprising some of the UK's finest players. Drawn from the worlds of orchestral, jazz, commercial, brass band and contemporary music, the octet reflects the very best of British trombone playing today. Together, they represent an exceptional breadth of musicianship united by a shared commitment to artistic excellence.
The Recording
Following an acclaimed debut performance, the project now returns to Regent Hall, London, where the ensemble will come together later this month to make its first recording. The aim is not simply to document a concert, but to create a recording that will preserve this unique collaboration, introduce a remarkable new work to audiences around the world, and leave a lasting addition to the trombone repertoire.
The finished album will be released on the World of Brass label, helping this music reach listeners across the brass world and beyond.
