Aim

We are crowdfunding to cover some of the costs of making our debut album, 'A Drop for Neptune'.

Hello!

We are TRIP, a six-piece trad band based in Glasgow, Scotland, featuring Sligo flautist Tiernan Courell, Newcastle accordionist Michael Biggins, Manx fiddler Isla Callister with Scots Alasdair McKenzie on guitar and voice, Rory Matheson on piano and Craig Baxter on bodhran.

Powerful, driven and distinctive, our sound is infused with the traditional melodies of Scotland, Ireland, England and the Isle of Man, a reflection and blend of the different Celtic nations each member hails from.

We first formed as a band in late 2016, where we met whilst studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Since then, we have gone on to perform all over the UK, including internationally acclaimed festivals such as Celtic Connections, Orkney Folk Festival and HebCelt. We have also taken our music to a global audience at festivals such as Sligo Live, Viljandi Folk Festival and Festival Interceltique de Lorient and we were also semi-finalists in the BBC 2 Young Folk Awards 2018.

THE ALBUM

Last year we were finally able to begin work on our debut album and despite several lockdowns, we were able to record with Ross Saunders at Gloworm studios when restrictions were temporarily lifted.

Our debut album titled, 'A drop for Neptune' combines both traditional and contemporary, self-penned tunes and songs to create an exciting take on traditional music. 'A drop for Neptune' has been inspired by the sea - something that connects and shapes us all.

We're delighted to be working on this album with -

  • Ross Saunders, who has engineered & mixed our album with great skill and patience
  • Elly Lucas, who helped bring our album to life through her incredible artwork
  • Michael Fossenkemper of TurtleTone Studios who  mastering our album
  • Jim Soars, who will be helping us to promote our album

BUDGET

It has been a difficult 18 months for everyone and a challenging time to make a debut album. With your support, we aim to help cover the initial costs we have incurred and also the remaining costs of completing our album, with the hope to release it in January 2022.

The initial costs include -

  • Tracking - £1500 (£500 of which was covered by the RCS Make it Happen fund)
  • Mixing - £600
  • Studio Hire - £1100
  • Album Artwork £425
  • Mastering - £600

The remaining *estimated* costs include -

  • Logo design/ Artwork - £175
  • Licensing - £200
  • PR & Postage - £1100
  • Physical production of CD -  £1200 (£800 covered by the Young Scot  'Time to Shine' fund.)

Taking all the costs in to account, our own financing, the platform fee and the funding we have already received, we are hoping to raise a total of £4,800.

Our debut album 'A drop for Neptune' is a culmination of the last 4 years of making music together. We've been really lucky to find a musical kinship in TRIP and now, we're really excited to take the next step and finally release our first album.

Thanks for reading and for your support this far and we really appreciate any help you can give us in completing our album.

If you have any questions at all, please feel free to get in touch with us via Facebook/Instagram or our email - [email protected].

We really cannot wait to share it with you all.
