A bit about us...
Hello! We are Simon and Sarah Treen, directors of Treen's Brewery. We're both Cornish and proud of our heritage, and we're very lucky to be able to live and work here in West Cornwall with our two young children.
Simon's interest in real ale started many years ago when he worked as a barman at the iconic Seven Stars in Falmouth. It's long been his dream to start his own brewery. After three years studying for a degree in Brewing and Distilling at Herriott Watt University, and ten years hands-on brewing experience, Sarah finally convinced him to go for it two years ago.
A bit about the brewery...
The brewery was founded in 2016 with the first beers hit the pubs in Falmouth just ten days after our daughter was born. Our first year was spent cuckoo brewing (borrowing another brewery's equipment) where we were able to produce just 8 casks a week. Since then, the brewery has been going from strength to strength. We've moved to our own premises in Ponsanooth with our own equipment, which has enabled us to develop and expand our range of beers. Due to popular demand, we started bottling three of our ales this summer. We've won several awards and are rapidly expanding our client base across Cornwall and beyond.
And our beers...
We aim to produce traditional ales to the highest standard. Our key principles are quality and consistency at all times. This comes through in our beers and the positive feedback we get from customers on both sides of the bar.
We have a core range of 4 beers: Essential (3.8%), a refreshing golden ale; Classic (4.3%), a traditional best bitter; Sunbeam (4.8%), deep gold and hoppy; and Resolve (5.3%), a dark and rich premium ale. Of these, Classic, Sunbeam and Resolve are now available in bottles. Cloud Cuckoo is our seasonal Christmas winter warmer and we plan to introduce further seasonal ales next year.
What people say about us...
“It is rare to meet someone who is so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the passion they call their business! Simon, your beer is excellent, I will return!” BN, brewery visitor
“Award-winning Cornish beer, what more needs to be said?” JB, pub regular
“That's dangerously drinkable!” GJ, landlord
“Excellent quality beers brewed by a great family brewery!” SH, pub regular
“I still get thanks from my friends for the wonderful evening, especially the fantastic beer and especially for the Resolve. Man, what a beer! Your masterpiece!” HS, bottle shop customer.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Increased demand from our regular stockists means that most of our beer is sold locally. We make a point of not letting our regulars down so in order to meet demand from new customers we need to expand our brewing capacity.
Each brew spends at least twelve days in the fermentation vessels, ensuring it's in top condition when it leaves the brewery. Having a new fermenter would give us the flexibility to brew more beer more often, thus getting more pints into the hands of more thirsty drinkers! It will also set us in greater stead for future expansion. If we're lucky enough to exceed our funding target, we plan to upgrade one of our current fermenters to one of a larger size, thus further increasing our capacity.
How can you help?
Thank you for taking the time to look at our project. If you're a fan of good quality beer and see the value in supporting a local family business, then hopefully you will find one or more rewards to suit you. Or you may be able to find the ideal Christmas present for someone special at the same time. Rewards start from just £5.
All our supporters are invited to our Crowdfunder finale party on the 22nd December at the Stag Hunt Inn, Ponsanooth, where you can collect your rewards (if not already done so) and join us for a pint or two to count down to the end of the campaign. You can also support us by drinking our excellent beer in a pub near you- and if your local is not a stockist, then please feel free to ask them to be!
Please feel free to visit our website at www.treensbrewery.co.uk or give us a call on 07552 218788.
Many thanks for your support,
Simon and Sarah
