OUR MISSION IS TO RESTORE THE WORLD'S MOST CRITICAL MOUNTAIN ECOSYSTEMS
Centuries of uncontrolled deforestation and forest fires have destroyed vast areas of Argentina’s native forests, severely damaging biodiversity and reducing water availability. Working for Acción Serrana with the Foundation of Biospheric Activities in the Sierras Grandes of Córdoba, Argentina, we aim to bring water back to dry streams through large-scale reforestation of the highest forests on Earth - the Polylepis cloud ecosystems. We carry out this work by replanting native trees, establishing endemic wildlife corridors, building a research observatory to monitor our reserve while also studying its endangered ecosystems and running an environmental education program at schools throughout the region.
We support the local economy and we are extremely grateful for the help of the communities of the high plains of the Pampa de Achala and its valleys of Traslasierra and Calamuchita; they complete the passionate team of volunteers helping us achieve our goals.
Our reforestation efforts are part of the global award winning Acción Andina initiative which works for all the Polylepis forests of South America. Acción Andina has been recognized as a UN World Restoration Flagship Initiative under the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. This global honor acknowledges our bioregional reforestation initiative as one of the best examples of large-scale and long-term restoration in the world. In 2023, Acción Andina was also a winner of Prince William’s Earthshot Prize in the ‘Protect and Restore Nature’ category.
Our experienced local partners have been conserving and restoring the highest watersheds of Córdoba province for over two decades. Thanks to the continuous support of Acción Andina and the collective fund-matching efforts of Treeangle Foundation's friends, over the last 6 years we have reforested more than 635,000 trees with another 250,000 to be planted this season - but we need your help to get there!
YOUR DONATION IS ESSENTIAL TO CARRYING OUT OUR MISSION
With your support, we will be able to complete our mission this year: planting 250,000 Polylepis trees in key restoration sites, fencing and maintaining our reserves, collecting the millions of seeds needed for the next planting cycle and building nurseries where we germinate and grow seedlings.
In addition, your contribution enables us to organize educational activities in schools and environmental education workshops, promoting awareness and commitment to regenerating nature. We also work to establish agreements with landowners and institutional networks to ensure the long-term protection of these areas.
The monitoring of seedlings is another of our priorities, and we establish permanent monitoring plots in the mountains where we evaluate their growth with expert help. Thanks to these efforts we are seeing better survival and growth rates every year. We also support scientific research to continually improve our conservation strategies and to develop a model replicable across the whole bioregion.
In short, your donation helps us take concrete actions to restore biodiversity and educate communities, ensuring a more sustainable future for all.
Thank you for making a difference!
