Community Quilting

Quilters have always come together to support each other in tough times and to mark important moments, making everything from celebration quilts to protest banners.

Continuing that tradition, we're raffling this quilt, made by 28 members of our Monday Night Quilt Club, to raise awareness and funds for The People's Recovery Project.

We made it using traditional hand-sewing quilting techniques such as ‘appliqué’ and a simple quilting ‘running’ stitch, with donated materials.

The People's Recovery Project

We chose The People's Recovery Project (TPRP) because of the innovative way they tackle homelessness and addiction together. Their community-based approach makes recovery achievable and sustainable, and builds a support system that helps people through every step of their recovery journey.

Lightbulb Moments

This quilt design was inspired by TPRP's summer arts showcase called "Lightbulb Moments" - when the light switches on and someone decides to take a different path.

One community member described addiction as feeling like being trapped in a painful bubble. He said these moments give him hope. "There is light, and everything feels possible."

Our quilt moves from dark to light, showing the journey from feeling trapped to being drawn towards the light. Deciding is only the start, and TPRP's community helps people stay on that path.
