Who are we?
Top Yard School of Boxing & Fitness has been established since 2016. We offer boxing & fitness classes to all ages/genders in the local community. We have 9 coaches who are all DBS checked, undergone Child Protection Course, First Aid trained and are qualified Level 1 or Level 2 England Boxing Coaches. We have had much success in Amateur Boxing since we formed as a club and we aim to continue to expand and do more so for the local community. We have progressed boxers to National Champions, National finalists, Gold Medallist box cup champions and have produced more than 10 regional champions since the formation of our club. We aim to produce more national champions and have our boxers represent England at International level in the next 5 years.
Our participants come from diverse backgrounds and are broken down into the following White, Pakistani, Traveller Community, Eastern Europeans, Portuguese, African, South Asian, and Middle Eastern.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We are looking to expand our gym members by 50% to include more members of the community who are looking to boost their health & fitness as well as their mental health. The funding will be used to purchase new equipment for the larger premises and increased number of members.
In June 2025, we are looking to move to our new premises in Queensgate Shopping Centre which is located in a deprived area of Peterborough and is a larger premises which is vital for our mission to expand and improve our project.
The move will allow us to be located in the heart of this community where we understand there is a much need for a health & fitness hub whilst offering the benefits of a local boxing club. Queensgate Shopping Centre is located in the Central Ward of Peterborough and is a 10 minute walk from the Millfield neighbourhood.
How we’ll spend the money raised
Equipment for new premises:
Additional 10 x punch bags= £4400 (£440 per bag)
3 x Treadmill= £4,800 (£1600 per treadmill)
3x Assault Bike= £2445 (£815 per bike)
1 x weight rack= £700
1 x Boxing ring= £5500
Community impact
Millfield has been identified as a deprived area with a high number of youth and residents below the poverty line. In addition to this, Millfield has been identified as falling within an area of high organised crime by the Home Office. The Police and Local authority are doing a joint project called the Alliance which we are a member of.
Boxing is not only great for physical fitness but for mental health as well since it helps the participants to relax and get away from their usual daily stresses. The club also gives them a sense of belonging and a chance to be part of our success story, this links in the aims of the Alliance project which hopes to create activities for young people on the streets who are susceptible to being lured into organised criminal activities.
Currently, we offer 3 Amateur Boxing classes a week, with 1 x Community Class per week. The Community Class is open to anyone who wants to try Boxing for leisure or fitness for example. We are aiming to offer more Community Classes to the local community by opening 7 days a week with multiple sessions each day. We are also looking to offer female only classes open to all in the community. This was identified as a need within the Millfield area from the Local Authority Place Coordinator engagement and Integrated Care Board meetings. Health statistics have also shown that women in Peterborough are experiencing poor health conditions from lack of activity.
